The Bicycle Thread

I've googled it and found various articles, but anyone have good resources they've used personally for helping navigate the process of buying all the necessary parts to make a frameset road ready?

I have a Cinelli Vigorelli frameset chilling in my closet since early Fall, want to start putting it together.

They have a bunch of colors coming out too. I feel like Nike will get back into cycling if Adidas is doing something now.

Nike already put out some cycling shoes, but i think they're for indoor training only

I ordered them but Adidas sends its stuff through snail mail. Will throw in some pics and review when I get them. Going to use them on my SS/Fixie around town. Will be perfect for brewery runs and going out to eat.

Any tips on what to do to avoid neck/shoulder pain. After about an hour of riding my shoulders were killing me. Should I lower or raise the seat?

Lowering the seat always makes for more of a comfortable riding position whereas raising it can get you in a more aerodynamic position. I also think just getting used to positions helps with those pains as well. When I first road, I would be in all sorts of pain with my butt hurting the most from the seat with no bike shorts but through time, most of that went away unless I did some real long rides.

Definitely not the seat - that just determines how extended your legs are and fore/aft gets you right relative to the bottom bracket - set those properly and then leave them alone.

Then look at your bar position - make sure you've not got too much or too little weight on your hands. Hard to say what the cause is without seeing you on it.

Sometimes it’s just a case of HTFU though. It’s cycling - you’re supposed to suffer.

finally rode my bike yesterday since the weather was nice...just around the neighborhood while my kids walked

my buddy is gonna grab me a helmet, pedals, bottle cages, and bottles at cost since he's tight w/ a local shop owner

ready for warm weather

My wife takes a better pic of her new bike than I do.

One of my close friends wanted one of these beach cruisers cause he didn't wanna spend more than $200 for a bike. After seeing all the pics and discussion we were having on the whatsapp group, he wanted to join us on our group rides.

So I told him cool, go ahead and buy it, but don't cry when you get cat 6'd and you're 30+ minutes behind......he didn't buy it

Raising and lowering the seat won't really affect your shoulders/neck. You need to check how much fore/aft (forward/backward) is on your saddle, and adjust it. If you have too much aft, your upper torso is being pinched into the front of the bike.

Minor cockpit adjustments are always gonna have an effect on your riding position, and thus affect your joints/muscles. Perfect example is when I changed my stem and spacers, I dropped into a more aero position. There was minor discomfort on my upper back/neck in the first couple rides. But after a while my body adjusted, ,matter of fact, I just did a 45 miler last week with no problem.

Finally got around to riding this week. It was projected to rain all day, and I thought it cleared up enough around noon for me to go out for a ride. Ended up raining the last 20 minutes of the ride. Luckily I was already finished with the fast downhills when it started pouring.

Rain in SoCal?! LOL WUT

Naw but on the real, the terrain and weather out in Cali is perfect for roadies. Whenever I get around to buying a road bike, I'd love to mash up and down those canyons.

Just picked up this bad boy two weeks ago and loving thus far. Had a really old Kona coiler and it was time to move on to something better. Didn't think the Kona was going to sell but got 10 offers literally in one night.

On another note, are any bay area NTERs down to ride Road bikes in the spring? With things opening up, the time change giving us more sunlight and warmer weather, I figured it'd be a good time for the gang to do a ride together.

I’m down! I’m in pdx but from the bay and visit frequently.

I usually bring my travel road bike and ride with the homies
