The College Basketball Post

I think it'd be beneficial for Bazz to go in the second round to keep him hungry and make sure he keeps improving. That to me is the difference a lot of the times with these types of prospects and how they pan out in the league. Some get that 1st round guaranteed money and they probably don't work as hard while others (ala Lil Zeke) go in the 2nd and work their ***** off.

Even when he was a starter at 20 he wasn't as good as Ennis at 19.

Actually, Bazz had the better stats in every worthwhile category except in steals (Bazz avg. 1.7 steals vs 2.1 for Ennis. Even here, one can argue that the 'Cuse Zone padded that particular stat.)

Some guys get content with that 1st round status. Going in the 2nd pretty much guarantees a prospect is going to have to maximize his potential by giving it their all in training and workouts. Keeps them hungry,
it may, it may not

all depends on the players mindset

Exactly. I agree with you it's all about the mindset. For prospects who are fringe 1st rounders, going in the 2nd can be beneficial because it forces you to focus and maximize your potential.
