The College Basketball Post

Picked USC over UCLA. Alford off to a rough start.

While I'm not high on the Alford bandwagon, chill out a little bit...Isn't that Zach Levine kid supposed to pretty good coming in this year?

Zach should be fine, but that's still a Ben Howland kid .

Steve Alford needs a better staff .

That's the biggest thing. Enfield hired two SoCal guys who are killing it right now. Alford is gunna miss on Stanley, Dorsey and Holiday. Howland couldn't recruit SoCal, which more or less led to his demise.

So what you're saying is that K needs a SoCal guy...

We also need another Chicago guy with Chris going to Evanston, he's going to feast on the talent here. Just give him 3 yrs

That Texas/Chicago Pipeline though

K does a pretty good job cleaning up the midwest. He's been decent out west but I think Nelson/Singler were the last two noteworthy coups from the west coast

Alford got backup plans to Stanley and Justise when he misses on both?

I thought he did a great job recruiting socal. Westbrook, Holiday, Honeycutt, Lamb, Andersen, Ship, Collison, Afflalo.

Its just that some of those players didnt pan out. I think it is unfair to blame a coach when players leave before they are ready. If Holiday and Honeycutt would of stayed another year. I think UCLA would still be making deep runs in the tourney.

I dont know. I see him having the same trouble that Dawkins is having at Stanford. Northwestern and Stanford have such high requirements academically it is gonna be hard to get past that.

If he can get pass that hurdle, not saying it's a small hurdle, then he's golden considering his connections.

Alford's biggest problem is having Enfield in town.

Hard to create a monopoly w/ the buzz he has going right now.

that's not the problem at all. enfield made the right hires with people with west coast ties

alford didn't. all of ED schilling recruiting ties right now are in the mid west, the other 2 guys don't have west coast connections yet. Alford really got the job and didn't know who to offer, only offered some big names and 5 stars cause everyone knows about them. the local recurits he is clueless on right now.

Looks like Coach K is getting aggressive in his recruitment of Myles Turner. He was in the Dallas area just yesterday to watch the kid practice and later paid him an in-home visit. Coach K is real high on this kid wants him to join him program.

Reid Travis arrived in Durham last night. Sounds like this one will be over next week.

Winslow/Looney becomes an either/or scenario. With Semi/Murphy here already i'd take another big in Looney
