Y'all wylin' with "400 degrees" being a classic. But, I can understand it had a definite moment in time and was a definitive movement in Hiphop culture. Do I think it deserves to be quoted? HELL NO. But, that's my just opinion. I don't think it's a lyrical masterpiece. But, I justwanted you to expound on the reasoning of putting it next some of these other quotables. I like to hear both sides of the coin.

C'on O.

A coast on many fronts took over hip-hop.

You gotta credit the albums like made it possible.

And "400 Degreez" is one of them from the South. That joint and Ghetto D are like the Illmatics of the Lou. It's many quotables on 400 Degreez, given its a Southern LP that separated itself from other garbage.

And while I'm on my tangent, Beats By the Pound should get more credit than they get.

There are different "degrees" to what makes a record classic.

Part of what makes 400 Degreez a classic to me are the memories attached to it (college FTW). But it's also an album that I enjoy 99%. I think there is onesong on there that I skip.

With that said, I personally wouldn't have quoted it in this thread.

The hardest rhyme Pimp C ever spit (C-Murder's Akickdoe!)

This game f-d up
I ain't got no friends
I done spend my last 70,000 dollars on a drop-top benz

And the Camel doing the "Ha" Remix is the only Blemish on 400 Degreez

at the Camel.

I'll give you one thing, Kev: Ghetto D stamped the South. I have to confess, as much disdain as I have for most of the Southern artists(mostly, becausethey're country as hell, and come off rather '$+%@-#%!'), Ghetto D raised the bar. Cash Money perfected it. I recognize the impact they made on thegame, good sir.

DAnG,

You took it back....I actually had forgoten about FIEND...He was the one that stood out in no limit, IMO.

Lets not forget about IMO the true King of the South......

He greets his father with his hands up
Rehabilitated slightly, glad to be the mans child
The world is different since he seen it last
Outta jail been seven years and he's happy that he's free at last
All he had was his mother's letters
Now he's mobile and he's gotta make a changed and make it for the better
But he's black so he's got one strike against him
And he's young plus he came up in the system
But he's smart and he's finally makin' eighteen
And his goal's to get on top and try to stay clean
So he's callin' up his homie who done came up
Livin' lavish now they dealin' wit' the same stuff
And had that attitude that who he was was worth man
And with that F up attitude he killed his first man
Now its different he done did dirt
And realized killin' men meant comin' up
But it still hurt
And can't nobody change this
It's 1994 and we up against the same $*#!
I never understood why
I could never see a man cry
Until I see a man die

FACE...Man cry

2 many to list

^^^ i see your "man cry"

and raise you "no tears"

Now the funeral is over
And all the tears are dried up
*@**%@ hangin deep on the cut gettin fired up
Lookin for the %%*@* who pulled his pistol on my homie
An eye for an eye so now your life is what you owe me
Look deep into the eyes of your motherf**king killa
I want you to witness your motherf**king murda %%*@*
And since you wants to kill then your as* has gots to fry
But ain't no police therefore your as* has gots to die
We play the game for keeps and if you slipped I guess you sleep
You showed no f**kin now your as* is six feet deep

scarface

i swear "the diary" and/or scarface is so underappreciated!!!

^Nobody can paint a picture like Face...

He got alot of tracks that could compete with the 'illest open line' category..

'Man Cry', 'No Tears', 'Mind Playin Trick's on Me', and 'MaryJane' all have dope opening verses with no hook first..

One of my personal favorites from him..

I dont think that there's any better way to approach a track the way Deck did on this... as if ODB aint already put you in that zone to begin wit...

I definitely think Deck on Triumph wins. That opening is undeniable. If there was ever a list of top hip hop verses, that has to be near the top. Is there aperson who listens to (good) rap who can't quote it verbatim?
