Wasting a first round pick to get Thad Young, this is why coaches shouldn't be GM's.
First round picks are quickly becoming overrated. I'd much rather part ways with the 28th pick than AB.
And if you do value picks, think of it as we just got 3 first rounders for Love, 2 of which were number 1 picks.
Depends on the circumstance. In this case, I'm totally fine with it for the Wolves. Thaddeus can be a very valuable role player on this young team. I will take that as the given over the uncertainty of what I'm assuming will be a pick in the 20's. Minnesota still owns their own pick anyway.
You're not guaranteed he goes to Minnesota, that's the whole point of a trade. They're better with Thaddeus Young than they are without. Proven player > unknown rookie in the range of picks where history suggests you don't get the type of player that's as good as TY is now. That's all there is to it. The deal fits the circumstance just fine.
****, we're not going to get Allen Crabbe! There's a zero percent chance we sign Thad Young after this year!
OH NOOOOOOOOO
I would absolutely trade Zach LaVine for one year of Thaddeus Young. I hate him.
There's no guarantee that you even get a player that produces at the 20+ spot, which is where the heat will be even if they lose wade.
And we get to shed Shved and Mboute too.... Next up Barea and Martin for Thomas Robinson
Seriously though, I think we should do what the Lakers did last year, take a bunch of young outcasts and let them play and see what we get, and if any of them stick. Meanwhile we shed our unwanted salaries.
"I think where maybe (Love) got away with some stuff not playing defense on our team, I'm not sure that's how it's going to work in Cleveland," Glen Taylor said on ESPN Radio 1500 AM in the Twin Cities on Tuesday. "I would guess they're going to ask him to play more defense, and he's foul-prone."
"I question Kevin if this is going to be the best deal for him, because I think he's going to be the third player on the team," Taylor added. "I don't think he's going to get a lot of credit if they do really well. I think he'll get blame if they don't do well. He's around a couple guys that are awful good."
Taylor also questioned the durability of Love, who has twice suffered a broken hand, which caused him to miss most of the 2012-13 season.
"The only thing I still have a question mark about is health," Taylor said. "I had that concern then [when they negotiated his previous contract], and I still have that concern. I think Cleveland should have that concern, too."
