The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

with his nose like that...it was getting difficult for me to watch toward the end of that one :x

he went down clutching his nose seemingly involuntarily...the pain must have been overwhelming

I love Conor as much as anyone on NT but he has nothing for Frankie

Frankie wouldn't mess around with sub attempts he'd be content with laying on Conor for 20+ minutes working GnP. Conor wouldn't be able to escape. Conor wouldn't be able to offer anything in the standup that Frankie hasn't endured and survived before

Re-watched the fight again, Conor was cracking Mendes in the first round standing. Body kicks and straight punches were landing clean

Also, it's easier said than done to "survive" against an aggressive Lawler

You're delusional is you think Conor couldn't beat Frankie after last night.

With a full camp preparing for a wrestler??

Why is that

Mendes had him down for an entire round and made a mistake by going for a sub

Frankie wouldn't make those mistakes and would hold him down the entire fight

Frankie has endured way harder straight shots than Mendes did last night

It's easy to say "everyone should have the tools of Frankie, Aldo and Weidman" :lol

Not the tools, the Basic stand up fundamentals.

It's not instinctual, its learned.

tools can't be taught, fundamentals can.
And as a fighter who has to fight more than 75% of your fights on your feet, the least you can do is tuck your chin, move your head, give angles and levels and move laterally instead of straight lines

Oh wow I did not know Rory was up 3-1 on all the judges scorecard. I thought the first round was a toss up, second was clearly Robbie..then Rory 3 and 4. Figured they'd for sure give that first close round to the champion and it be 2-2 going into the 5th.

Frankie would definitely be the hardest match up for Conor. He was taken down at will and Frankies wrestling is right up there near the top. He wouldn't have tried nothing fancy like Vincent said and would have been fine laying on him for 20 minutes..pretty much what Chad should have done but he was gassed. 1 thing we know about Frankie is can easily go 5 rounds and not slow down.

Again easier said than done. It's like saying "everyone should have the fundamentals of a Tim Duncan in the post"

In MMA when you're preparing for so many different techniques it becomes even more of a challenge

I'm not asking for Floyd may weather defenses, I'm saying guys get hit with punches due to amateur errors that are the basics.
If your foundation is strong, you can carry past your physical limits.

When you're sloppy... Well you know what happens

Seemed like most had Lawler/Rory 2-2 going into the 5th.

Crazy that it was 3-1 across all the judges cards.

Robbie is that dude. He is probably the guy I would least want to fight against at any weight. His technique and power are nuts.

Good win for Conor. But the holes in his game were definitely visible.

He can eat the shots from anyone at FW it seems. So it's the movement and the combos from Edgar along with his smooth transitions from striking to wrestling that I think will give him the most problems.

Thing is, I don't think Frankie gets the KO and I'm not sure what happens when a fight like that goes to the judges.....

eat it Rusty, McGregor is great and entertainning :smokin

cant speak for rus but some of us got a problem with how the ufc has been handling mcgregor, and by ufc, obviously i mean dana

an interim belt for one fight?  it aint like aldo tore his acl or nothing

it's all about marketing at that point.

Yeah belt is ridiculous. But in reality it doesn't even matter. They will fight for the belt regardless

exactly this.

they will fight for the belt.

now they can just hit us with the new champ / Old champ kind of fight.

Sloppiness has to do with fighting the different techniques and getting gassed. Chad was exhausted after the failed sub attempt and could hardly stand

I understand you should have the basics down, don't get me wrong. All I'm saying is that it's easier said than done when you're in the ring, trying to wrestle, getting hit in the body, fundamentals tend to go out the window when your body is crumpling/folding

It'll get to the ground. If Chad got Conor to the ground 4 times in 2 rounds, Frankie will have the same success if not more with take downs

Frankie's boxing and footwork is MUCH better than Chad's, meaning that Frankie will be able to use his boxing to set up more effective take downs

Don't get it twisted, i can see how Frankie could be successful but to say Conor couldn't win is insane. Especially if he beats Aldo.

I feel you. Trust, I want Conor to win and get in everyone's feels I just see the holes in Conor's wrestling

If Frankie's chin has been deteriorating then I could see Conor winning but do we have evidence of that? Conor really needs to work on his wrestling defense because when Frankie smells that weakness he'll be content to lay on you. As evidenced in that Cub fight

McGregor needs to improve his wrestling, that's for sure.

at least he will have time to do so before fighting Frankie.

Has Frankie ever been stopped?

I feel like Frankie would definitely do better than Mendes. Frankie has cardio for days. His wrestling/GNP is elite level. His stand up is extremely solid. Probably better than Chad's. Chad has more power though.

Connor does need to work on his TDD and try to improve his ground game. His movement, mobility and striking are great.

Frankie has never been stopped. He's been knocked down and stunned from HUGE bombs but never stopped

Frankie undoubtedly has better stand up than Chad. His footwork, precision and accuracy are at another level. The only thing Chad has is power. I would also say Frankie has the best cardio in the division

Frankie is also one of the trickiest and smartest fighters in the UFC. He will not try anything cute in there and would not mind making it an ugly decision win

If Conor were to beat Frankie I think that would be as impressive to me as beating Aldo
