In accordance with our conversations, this will confirm and verify that the National Basketball Association's rules and procedures prohibited the wearing of certain red and black NIKE basketball shoes by Chicago Bulls player Michael Jordan on or around October 18, 1984.

True never thought of this...regardless the Banned 1s didnt have an official release...or did they?

For those wondering both the original Nike contract and the NBA's letter are on display in the Jordan Building at Nike HQ. Not sure if thats open access to the public though.
 
Nvrmnd i guess it went against the "only all white shoes to worn in the NBA" at that time.....as he was in violation of that rule.
 
Always appreciate when reports like this pop up on the JB. A little bit of history behind the shoe that started it all.

Oh yeah, because selling copies of a legal document is definitely legal. That *%$# isn't against the law?
