The NBA Draft Thread

Not sure that is athleticism on his part.  A quick first step is all Austin Rivers has.  Once he is at the bucket he can't do anything.  He doesn't jump very high and can't get over defenders.  An above average athlete is someone like Dion Waiters in my opinion.

Honestly I would rather trade Oak to Boston for Bradley or Smart and grab Dunn with the number 3 pick.
In regards to what the C's would be giving up for Jah…dis tew much. Bradley or Smart alone could fetch you a low to mid lottery pick in this draft.

More like someone from the Terry Rozier, James Young, R.J. Hunter, etc. group + #3 for Jah.

Rivers is definitely starting to show more explosiveness as he gets older and he does have a great first step.

As he get stronger, he'll be on the higher end of the athletic spectrum.

This. The realistic trade for Okafor should be a no-brainer. With the roster that they currently have, there just isn't anybody there at 3 that really makes sense. Bender will probably be a nice role player at some point, but I'm not sure that he'd really be worth using that pick on. The guards don't make sense unless they are able to move Smart for a big man.

For all the Chriss fans here are some numbers/facts to consider.

Fouled out in 15 of his 34 games, 10 of 18 pac 12 games.

Kris Dunn, Wade Baldwin, Gary Payton all had better defensive rebounding rtg than him.

I understand the kid has all the tools scouts drool over and they all want to be the one to fix his game/teach him how to play basketball but the kid is lost on the defensive end and what about his shot looks like it will translate better than Skal's?

The CBS guys brought this up but I don't think it's ever happened where a kid wasn't a top 50 recruit in his class, went one and done, and was a top 10 pick. Anyone taking him that high is gonna be waiting a long time for him to be ready. I'd feel better taking Skal in the mid teens.

Just some food for thought

Yeah, I've pretty much put Chriss, Skal, and Brown in the same group. I wouldn't draft any of them in the top 6 or so, but once you start getting around 10, it's probably worth it....

Skal hasn't showed nearly enough, he was better off staying at UK and coming back stronger.

Kid was being talked about as the #1 pick, he showed some flashes but he has a long way to go.

For the whole season all I heard was that this is supposed to be a 2 man draft. Now I keep seeing all these names getting thrown around and hyped up. So which is it? How does this draft compare to last year's and others?

I don't think he has either, but in a draft like this, where there are probably only a few actual starting caliber players and a lot of bench/role players, drafting one of the boom or bust guys isn't really that crazy...

It's really a draft full of role players. Other than Simmons and Ingram, there may only be a few other guys that are actual NBA starters. The names you are hearing are probably the boom or bust guys like Chriss.

Last year's draft was better as far as having star potential guys. KAT was a much better prospect than Simmons/Ingram. Porzingis was a much better prospect than Bender as far as the international players go. Russell and Okafor are pretty much on the same level as Ingram.

I see three tiers

Tier 1 - Simmons and Ingram

Tier 2 - Murray, Bender, Dunn, Hield, Poetl, Chriss, Skal, Davis, Jaylen, Baldwin, Ellenson, Valentine (no order)
Tier 3 - Everybody else from 15-40. :lol

Weaker draft than 2014 and 2015. Better than 2013 though. :x I think the draft will be judged by the guys drafted in the 20s panning out.

I would personally put Murray and Dunn in their own tier in Tier 2. I think both could be really, really good players.

he's going to go in the 1st round, why should he go back? :lol

If Skal went back he would probably go the way of James McAdoo/Wayne Selden. He's still gonna go lottery in this draft. He'll look too good in his one on none workouts and some team will jump on his potential.

He would go higher if he put it all together next year.

There's a big difference between lottery money and back of first round money.

with a good workout he could lottery this year. :lol

if he go's back he could blow his knee out, play like trash, not get playing time ect ect.

Way more risky to go back, besides, its not the first contract it's securing the second one.
