The NBA Draft Thread

@AdamHimmelsbach So the Celtics say Jamal Murray's 79 for 100 three-pointers is a record for this year. Previously held by the legend Kyle Wiltjer (77).

Murray need to continue to develop that handle and shot off the dribble. Hell be exceptionally creative for a 2. I know he has passing ability in him

Idk about his defense

Defense ain't that important for his position for you not to draft him TBH
Lillard
Curry
Westbrook
Mccollum
Harden
Irving
Are all meh to average defenders

No doubt. Murray is my first guard taken off the board

Though I do like Dunn too. He's just more of a pg

The whole "is he a 1 or a 2" thing doesn't hold as much weight as it once did.

The two top PGs in the NBA this season were considered 2's that had to convert to 1's coming into the league.

Off

Steph and Russ were considered 2s?
Steph played exclusively at the 2 @ Davidson until his senior year when Jason Richards left. Westbrook didn't even share ballhandling duties with Collison @ UCLA. He played exclusively off the ball.

Whether they could play point full time was a question mark for both players coming into the league.

Maybe it doesn't but there's still a clear difference especially when talking projections

Yea.

I also think comparing incoming prospects to arguably two best players in the league isn't the most sound thing ever.

Pretty much a given that they are outliers.

Chad Ford 9.0 mock draft news and notes

Ben Simmons has improved jumper, added strength, big gap between him and INgram for number 1 in Sixers orginization

Ingram has made the transition to NBA 3 point line "effortlessly"

Marquess Chriss
has "strong intrest" from Celtics, Suns, Wolves, Pelicans, Nuggets, Kings and Raptors

Buddy Heild might be slipping teams "coming to grips" with the fact that he's undersized, lacks upside.

Dejounte Murray range is 8-17 (wow)

Domatas Sabonis shot it well from NBA 3 in workouts, looks more explosive. Very likely a lottery pick.

Malachi Richardson could go as high as 12, shooting it really well in workouts, teams like his legth.

At 6'5 with a 6'9 wingspan, I'm not sure why Hield is considered undersized. At least not enough to cause concern.

Me neither, he's fine.

Considering how much of a gym rat he is, it's hard for me to see him not max out his body with NBA training as well.

I don't see why he can't be a more versatile version of Clips JJ Reddick.

I know he didn't shoot well early in his career but he became so elite that I don't see it not translating.

Also not surprised Richardson is moving up, seemed like he just started really finding his game late in the year.

The physical tools are there and he just plays with the type of confidence you like to see in a young player.

Could be a nice value pick.

I think Hield's senior season shows he may have more upside than we've seen, only because he may have 'figured' something out mentally with how efficient he suddenly became like turning on a switch.

No, the degree of his efficiency is not sustainable...

But that's not what we're realistically supposed to be grading him on anyway.

So: Those senior year percentages when compared to his first three years either say,

A.) Pelton-powered POV / The fact that he wasn't a star right away in his freshman season, that he needed time to figure it out shows he's headed toward a tough transition OR may not ever figure it out, or

B.) That he figured out the mental part of the offensive side of the ball, which is really as simple as confidence in yourself, your chances of shooting over/blowing by the defender in front of you, and confidence in your stroke.

I don't get the Richardson infatuation.

Edit:

Well I guess I do, 6'6 with a 7'0 wingspan. But I don't see much of a basketball player right now.

- Agent thought it was best to work out alone.

- Throughout workout Celtics were giving him defensive tips (positioning, "small tips on screens", trapping)

- He said he's working out for New York, Phoenix, and MInnesota. Just those three and Boston's from today.

- I would take Sabonis after 8 anywhere, unless someone we don't expect to fall ended up being there.

- Rob Pelinka must be a freaking stud of an agent because Marquesse Chris' ascension is unprecedented right? And unwarranted.

- Hield's defense is underrated whenever his NBA prospects are discussed.

- Rubio's comments the other day re: the playoffs being an expectation by a player's 6th year is a completely made-up deadline :lol I mean it really is, there isn't an ACTUAL deadline, just, that's the way things have gone. :lol So on his part, when he sees the cavalry coming in Towns/Thibs' influence - now and into the future, it seems a bit misplaced.

Maybe bitter about how the most notable mock drafts have been sliding Dunn into our pick at No. 5 + the report out there re: Dunn wanting to be drafted by Minnesota that was tweeted out a week or two ago.

I could understand why he may think he's given up a lot to voice his commitment to Minnesota, even through the hardest of times. Semi-"brand protector", when reports would come out re: a writer citing his desire to be traded or reports that fabricated his desire to go elsewhere - he always made a point of falsifying most reports like that over the years and probably - as someone who was used to winning in the Euroleague/Olympics for so many years before a half-decade of losing in Minnesota - sees the loyalty he provided the team w/ through tough times as being sort of undermined when things are on the verge of being successful, finally.

If you were the person coming from that POV, I could understand his plight, but it's a little shortsighted and panicky out of nowhere IMO. Idk. I mean they haven't taken Dunn yet.

I wouldn't want Dunn to start during his first year, maybe even second, anyway - but if I remember right, his agent was quoted in a tweet regarding his client's desire not to go to a team that had their PG situation already locked up (which actually contradicts the tweet that stated he wanted to go to Minnesota).

It's all smoke right now. :lol

15 PPG seems like a real possibility for me. 20 is probably unlikely, but if you're a lottery team that is a borderline playoff team or already one (Raptors) you can do really well drafting Hield.

I'd put his 'best-case scenario' as a few levels better than that, but I think 'serviceable starter on a good team' is probably the most likely scenario of all that could play out for him.
