Some players we could use still available halfway through the third, but we won't get back in.
Justin Ellis, Telvin Smith, Brock Vereen..
Was just gonna ask if Nix was more of a 1 or 3 technique, but he is off the board now to the Texans. We get to see that defensive front week 5.
I honestly hope we trade a next year 4th & 1 or 2 7ths for a 4th tomorrow.. Seahawks have like 4 picks in the 4th.
We have 3 true positional needs. Would give us 3 picks between 4th & 5th.
DT, OLB, S
1. Brock Vereen, SS, Minnesota
2. Telvin Smith, OLB, Florida State
3. Justin Ellis, DT, Louisiana Tech
4. Craig Loston, SS, LSU
5. Daniel McCullers, DT, Tennessee
6. Lamin Barrow, OLB, LSU
7. Caraun Reid, DT, Princeton
If I have a gun to my head, and we didn't add another pick.. We have to go DT. As much as it will suck not to have Vereen who is a Defensive Leader.
Yea, we need to pick up a DT. 1 or 3 on Justin Ellis? Might have to wait it out till the 7th for a S. LB is still a big need for us.
From CBS
" He looks like a zero-technique who should be a man-eating run stuffer, but is more of an upfield penetrator who is a handful to control as a pass rusher. Ellis is scheme-versatile to play a two-gapping NT role or as a 3-technique who wins with initial burst."
I'm opposite, I could live with waiting for the 7th for an OLB. I think getting Safety out of the way is much bigger because we haven't answered any questions about our Secondary. If we take a DT, 2 of our 3 picks in the first 4 were Front 7.
Maybe trade the 5th & a 7th to get back into the 4th for Vereen or Loston.
Dallas (Traded with Washington): Demarcus Lawrence, OLB/DE, Boise State: Lawrence may not have the explosive get-off that some of the other rushers in the draft possess, but he's athletic, instinctive and has a wide array of moves to get to the quarterback. Solid against the run as well. GRADE: B
Grade: Good Pick, Good Fit
Dallas Cowboys: Zack Martin (16th), Demarcus Lawrence (34th)
The skinny: After building up so much goodwill in the first round, you know Jerry Jones was going to give it away. The Cowboys paid way too much to move up a handful of spots, but at least they got a replacement for DeMarcus Ware in Lawrence.
Grade: A-
Why This Pick Makes Sense:
Really like the pick and the value here, as Lawrence has been continually underrated since a poor combine.
One day in Indianapolis aside, he's a stud athlete who knows how to make game-changing plays. He certainly won't make people forget about the last DeMarcus in Dallas, but he'll improve the defense.
Where Things Could Go Terribly Wrong:
Some character red-flags and the thought that maybe he was just a man among boys at Boise kept some low on him.

Just over 2 hrs til the marathon that is Day 3 begins. Out of my remaining targets we hear #Cowboys interested in, DT Justin Ellis tops.
Would love to come out of Round 4 with a DT and Telvin Smith.
