THE OFFICIAL 2024 - 2025 DALLAS COWBOYS SEASON THREAD || MEH

We have a player named Drake on defense? :lol

It would actually be disgraceful if we win the division. This defense is HISTORICALLY bad! On pace to give up 7,000 yards and we are very close to breaking NO's record they set last year. The offense is mediocre to decent at best, but because the defense is so bad, it kind of goes unnoticed.

People rave about Megatron but I wonder how he'd fair in this offense, receiving only 2 targets a game at times.

Didn't see us motion Dez, didn't see him in the slot again.

We also have no answer for 3rd and 7 or above. The defense just brings the house and our oline doesn't know what to do. Romo is clearly tired of taking rib injections before the game so he just goes down as soon as he sees 3 men bum rush him :lol

Jerry says there will be tryouts :lol

Also sounds like Dez is fed up. Can't wait for the "He's a cancer" tweets/posts to come :lol

Clean house, I don't want to make the playoffs, it's not like we have a legit shot vs San Fran/Arizona or Carolina. At this point, making the playoffs is a MAJOR setback :{

They need to clean house. The only people that need to be kept are :

Tyron Smith
Dez
Travis Frederick
Beasley
Terrence Williams
Demarco
Sean Lee

Everyone else can be cut. Go with youth.

On Garrett - I'm ok with keeping Garrett because Jerry Jones meddles so much that it is hard for them to even get a good coach. He fired Jimmy after winning 2 back-to-back Super Bowls. Parcells only got the job after the team was awful and Jerry's hand was forced. Then when the team got better, Jerry wanted to meddle and Parcells quit.

Jerry hired Garrett before hiring Wade Philips. Didn't even let Wade decide on his own OC. Jerry fired Rob Ryan and hired Monty Kiffin, then made Callahan the playcaller.

I'm just not sure that a quality coach with a reputation like Dungy would even work under these conditions.

The problem I have with keeping Garrett is he refuses to let an OC come in and bring his own system. Garrett's system lacks creativity and has been stagnant since 2008 when Ray Lewis called us out and explained how easy it was to game plan for us.

I don't mind Garrett for the reasons you stated. I mind Garrett because of his offensive philosophy which he refuses to accept its stale.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of Romo, Ware Witten if it meant quality draft picks. But in order to draft well, you have to have a GM that knows what he's doing. Those picks would be wasted at TE and WR.

We also just gave Romo that contract so we are going to have to be in "win now" mode for the next few years.

We also have no answer for 3rd and 7 or above. The defense just brings the house and our oline doesn't know what to do. Romo is clearly tired of taking rib injections before the game so he just goes down as soon as he sees 3 men bum rush him :

That's one of the more disappointing aspects of our season IMO. It's like we have no blitz beaters. And this is every week every team.

You watch other teams against the blitz nd they invite it. They want to be blitzed. Cause it's TOO EASY to beat a blitz.

Hell, even look at Chicago last night every time we blitzed they had the PERFECT blitz beater called. A tight end screen, or a swing pass to an open running back.

Meanwhile teams blitz Dallas and romo doesn't even attempt passes. He just falls to the turf. And this is every single week man.

If it's this obvious to us, JG and Callahan has to see it too man.

Per the NFL, the Cowboys had the youngest 53-man roster in the NFC East, and had one of the youngest rosters in the league, on kickoff weekend 2013. OL average age of 25, one of the younger offensive lines in the league, and none of the starting linebackers was older than 28.

How much younger do you want to get?

IMO age has nothing to do with it, it's all about health, scheme, playcalling, and depth. We can't stay competitive if we're rolling dudes out on the field that were asking "paper or plastic" at your local grocery store last week.

I think you misunderstood my post. I was not saying that they need to get younger, I was saying that only the young talented players like Tyron Smith, Sean Lee, Dez, need to to be kept and everyone else can be cut / traded so they can rebuild.

Understood. The hard part about that is we are in "win now mode" ... I'm all for rebuilding, especially if we rebuild with proven players that come from a winning franchise or at least been to a super bowl! I don't think we have a starter on our roster that's been to a super bowl outside of Waters when he was healthy :{ ... No winners, no tough or dirty players, lack of true veteran leadership (don't give me Romo, Witten, or Ware since they haven't been out of the divisional round) :{

Jerry Jones said Tuesday that he still has confidence in first-year defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, a day after the Dallas Cowboys' 45-28 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Kiffin's defense allowed Chicago to score on eight straight possessions. Backup quarterback Josh McCown threw for four touchdowns, and the Bears were 8-of-11 on third-down attempts.

"He takes it personally; it's hard on him," Jones said of Kiffin during his twice weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. "Very hard on him. He's been doing this a long time.

"At his age [73], he's had a lot of different experiences. With all of that in mind, he's just got a resolve and he doesn't in any way reject the responsibility. As a matter of fact, he invites it all on himself."

After the loss, Jones said he wished the Cowboys (7-6) would trick up some of their defensive schemes and get more pressure on the quarterback to create turnovers.

When told of Jones' comments, Kiffin told ESPNDallas.com: "We blitzed early, you know, and tried to get some pressure and they got the ball off, and we mixed it pretty well."

The Cowboys used a mixture of man and zone coverages, but the secondary struggled to make plays. Chicago had five pass plays of 20 or more yards.

"To be doing what we're doing and to fix what we're doing, there's nobody I would rather have than him and [defensive line coach] Rod Marinelli," Jones said. "Where we are today, to get this fixed over the next, if you would, week or four or five days, the next three weeks, there's nobody I would rather have to get it fixed.

"First of all, he knows what's happening to us better than anyone. And if there are adjustments to be made, he's the right man for the job right now."

:{ :{ :{ :{ :{

Jerry and Monte need to lay off the Prune juice if they think this defense can turn it around at this point in the season!

1 positive from last night, Tyron completely locked down Peppers. Just read that he hasn't given up a sack since week 5, or a hit since week 7

He's growing into the player I thought he could be, very pleased with his development

now if only Claiborne could follow him

playoffs would be such a waste of time for us. defense is beyond soft and the offense is so republican :x

I was saying that weeks ago and trust me I got called out for it "terrible fan" "fairweather fan" bla bla bla

now they're at the point losing won't give them much better of a playoff spot, so why not try to get it in the playoffs and see what happens, but agreed I don't know if they could beat anyone with that D and conservative style of play on offense

at least open it up

Checking out the hysteria on this forum when the Cowboys lose. Aw man :lol

This is exactly why I love being a fan. The mediocre seasons aren't going to last forever. Eventually, even if it's years from now, things will change and the Cowboys will get back to the SB. And I kid you not, the haters will be on suicide watch.

Going to the bar yesterday, when the Bears scored, they were applauding, ringing bells from the kitchen, etc. This was a bar that consisted of ZERO Bears fans, 40% Cowboys, 40% Giants, and 20% "Other." Dudes legitimately got mad because we left the bar laughing asking us "What you Cowboys fans laughing at." We said "You." :lol

You out here on a work night spending $$$ while your team isn't playing and eliminated from playoff contention but still feel the compelling need to make sure the Cowboys lose. Then when you hit them with the "Americas Team rebuttal", they get offended.

On topic, Jerry says Monte Kiffin is a good fit for this defense.

It's always like that.

People get more satisfaction seeing Dallas lose, than seeing their squad win. Comes with the territory.

Nd I wouldn't have it any other way!!!

Back on topic. How do you guys feel if Marineli took over as d coordinator after this season?

I've wanted him to be the DC ever since he was hired. Only thing is Rod is supposedly a huge loyalty guy, that's what made him leave Chicago and join Dallas in the first place. If Kiffen is fired who's to say Marinelli won't walk away himself.

dude said republican lol

i think if you can make it to the playoffs, you have a great chance to go all the way.

The NFL is unlike any other sport with the win or go home...so a bad game by a great team can happen and they go home. ...

I agree 100%. It's the best part about being a Cowboys fan. I just love when its brought up, especially on NT, dudes get so upset :lol. You don't have the highest rated games every year simply because of Cowboys fans.

Rod is gone if Kiffin is gone. There is some sort of loyalty to Kiffin for whatever reason. They've pretty much said unofficially if Kiffin is fired, then Rod will walk. Hence, the reason why Kiffin hasn't been fired yet because then we lose Rod as well.

EDIT: First time since 1940 that there are two games in one NFL season in which a team did not punt.

The Cowboys Defense is responsible for both games.

I just want to see a new coaching staff next year...Jerry isn't going anywhere so at least go after Gurden or someone man, anyone! Tired of these beta coaches we've had over the years.

So much talent and yet we are mediocre :{

Jerry will only hire beta coaches.

I really don't think people understand how huge of an obstacle it is for Cowboys teams year in/year out to have to win despite the atmosphere Jerry has created. It absoloutely is not conducive to winning. This is why you see guys leave Dallas that you thought wouldn't even be a backup in the CFL and are currently starters on their prospective teams.

Remember when everyone said Terrance Newman was done after that Giants game in 2011?

Remember when people said Adam "Pacman" Jones was done after 2008?

Remember Skip Peete? (RB's coach)

Rob Ryan?

Wade Phillips?

Bradie James?

Keith Brooking?

I'm all for getting rid of Garrett not because I believe he's a bad head coach, but he's been here since 2007 and besides Romo, is the only constant remaining. Plus, I would really love to see Romo in someone elses offensive system. Jerry isn't going anywhere so people need to get that through their heads. We will have to win in spite of him. He won't give up his power unless his $$$ is affected.

Being that our thanksgiving game was the highest watch show this fall, he isn't going anywhere. Add in the fact that he says he plans on doing this for another 15-20 years.

On another note, its a friggin atrocity that Dez will go through an entire game with only 2 targets. Like, imagine Jerry Rice only getting 2 targets for several games in the season. Michael Irvin. Randy Moss.

Only in Dallas...

^ I agree about some of those things, but getting rid of Newman, Brooking, James and Wade were the right moves. Newman is playing well in that Cinnci system though, Wade was always a good DC, just not a HC

as for Rod, he should be the DC, always should have been
