THE OFFICIAL 2024 - 2025 DALLAS COWBOYS SEASON THREAD || MEH

First half doesn't look tough either, though. Outside of SEA, NE. Two NFCS teams, the giants twice.

Depth Chart, and a little write-up. I'll post it again on Draft Day.

2000

Quarterback – It’s starting to look like time to draft a replacement for Tony Romo. But here’s the problem, he’s still a Top 10 QB in this league, and we were extremely close to being in the Super Bowl. All other things held constant, if Russell Wilson played that way against us, the way he did Green Bay, we’d be in the Super Bowl. Because we’d be able to drain a lot of clock in order to prevent that huge comeback.

So while we need to think for the future, we also have a closing window. I hope they’ve been scouting late round QBs because we have too many holes to fix to spend a Top 4 round pick on a QB. I’d put it off for one more season, and next year go after a QB on Day 1 or 2. We’d have WRs in place, a Top 3 round Running Back from this year, and all homegrown young line for a new QB when Romo decided to hang them up :( .

Running Back – It’s clear we need a running back. McFadden can’t be our starter. Dunbar & Randle are not good enough to start. Randle vs. Williams will be interesting in training camp. If Randle is not clearly better than Williams, they will drop the former for the later. They no longer want to deal with that headache, and want a reason to get rid of him.

Wide Receiver - With Dez & Twill as our top 2 WRs, we have little need at WR. Beasley in the slot for those check down routes is golden. So there really is no need to go Wide Receiver. Unless someone slips to us.

Swing Tackle – With Parnell gone, we need insurance for Free… 1. He’s old 2. In Case of Injury. I would go with a mid-round pick for backup Tackle, and let them compete with Tony Hills for the spot. Or carry both just in case.

Defensive End – We need help here, but with Hardy & Lawrence, it’s better to go look elsewhere first. Mincey & Crawford should be able to play decently in the games that Hardy is suspended. But if there is a steal there, you should take it.

Defensive Tackle – Crawford is a good starter, but probably want him as the lesser talent of your starting DTs. I like Hayden, McClain & Brent as rotational guys. Just need that one guy who is able to get to the QB.

Weakeside LB – Simply drafting a guy because of Lee’s injury history.

Cornerback – We have a lot of bodies. I honestly think Carr will be let go at this point, especially if we draft a DB. I'd work on a re-structure for him up until draft day, if he doesn't, then you draft a DB, and let him go in July, and use that money saved to fill in the holes. If he does re-structure, I'd put off on going DB, and go maybe DE or Safety in Round 3.

If Carr is gone:
Scan should be strong side.
Claiborne is the Weakside.
White is the Slot DB.
Patmon is if all hell breaks loose and a bunch of injuries happen. Could even look to Spillman at that point as well.
C.J. Spillman hasn't signed yet, but he's extremely likely to be back. He's more of a backup Safety, and Special Teams where he was really solid last year.

First 3 rounds: Running Back, Defensive Tackle, Defensive Back. (If Gurley or Gordon are gone, then you go DT or DB). BUT, if we don’t go running back in Round 1, must go Running Back in Round 2 even if we have to reach because we need to make sure we get our guy.

4th, 5th, 7th, 7th - Outside Linebacker & Swing Tackle most important. Followed by DE, WR, S (which I only draft if it's a steal). Possibly a QB as well, but it isn't necessary this year. If Romo goes down, we're screwed regardless whether we drafted a guy in the 5th or 7th or not.

Thanks for this I'll probably stick to early round players this year and find someone I can't live without see: Jeremy hill from last year, about 100 pages ago

:lol

Don't sleep on the Giants man, with Cruz back that offense will be nasty

Definitely going to home opener. Giants could make some noise this year....
Not sure between Hawks and Pats..
Learning towards seeing the GOAT in person though...

Greg Hardy suspended for 10 games.

Now we have to open up as much cap space as possible to get somebody else in at DE for the first half of the season.

Can't be below six, I'd guess 8 as well. In a weird way it can work out as he comes in fresh for the second half run

But at that point he'll have missed 21 games he won't be the same player they are paying for. It can be whatever the arbitrator says it should, last year Gordon should have missed the whole season but he played

Coleman called him "a woman beater" then a fight escalated.

Hardy has got to let that **** slide. But Coleman has to just shut the **** up.

If Hardy didn't start it, I'd cut Coleman ASAP just for being an idiot.

Hardy has a history of beefing with teammates so there is probably more to it.

That 2nd half of the season could be murderous for us from a "health/ preparation to play" standpoint.
We play DC then have a short week and trip to GB.
Then another short week to play the Jets.
Then a long trip to cold, late Dec. Buffalo

I keep thinking of how they were a little worn out for the Thanksgiving game against Philly, along with the injuries.

It's the Cowboys and Greg Hardy so its making headlines. Verbal altercations take place all the time but it's more clicks when you report the Cowboys doing it. Coleman has been WELL KNOWN for not taking his job seriously and that's one of the reasons the Cowboys were considering cutting him, Hardy noticed his half *** effort, which was already documented by the organization and called him out on it. Coleman then retaliated with the woman beater comment.

If you look at all his ex teammates, they've said nothing but great things about Hardy since he's left. I'm glad we finally have some 'nasty' on this team. I loved Ware but he didn't have that "nasty" that this team needs. Mcclain has it, Hardy has it, Dez has it,

By the way, that 10 game suspension won't stick. He'll get 6 games maximum. I'm willing to even put money that it goes down to 4.

Here's the running back prospects. Top 11 IMO.

8000

8000

Having trouble with the details of each guy as a screen shot, so here's what I wrote...

Melvin Gordon - Can accelerate quickly. Always potential to take it to the house because he gets from the backfield to secondary real quick. Great balance to bounce off tackles, and keep moving forward like Demarco does. No idea as to if he's a good receiver out of the backfield. Needs more power in his legs because of bulk in Upper body. Reggie Bush comparison

Todd Gurley - Very physical back. Tough to bring down. Will put his shoulder down and run over guys. Good read of the line. Quick in and out of cuts. Can catch out of the backfield. Willing to block in pass protection. ACL is a major concern. Torn in November. Timetable is Mid-August. Should be # 1 RB. But ACL tear, and refusing to let teams look at it. Makes him # 2. Comparable - Marshawn Lynch.

Tevin Coleman - Uses strength to plow through the line, open up holes, and run over defenders. Very fast and aggresive. Good hands. Good in pass protection. Very durable. Will play through any aches and pains. Hard worker, high character guy. Lacks ideal body type for position, and is what he is physically. Only a 1 cut back. Sometimes is rigid with his stride. Needs to hold onto ball better. Indecisive reading the line. Comparable - DeMarco Murray

Ameer Abdullah - Tough. Hard worker. Good locker room presence. Runs low to the ground, and has explosive jump cuts without losing speed. "Chess player" - Sees holes quickly, and is 2 moves ahead. Reliable pass catcher. And will do everything to pass protect, even if he stinks at it. Needs to put on more muscles. Limited blocker, and lack of size hurts him in picking up pass rusher. Gets knocked back easy in pass protection. Comparable - Ahmad Bradshaw

Jay Ajayi - Good lateral quickness to make guys miss in the hole and in space. Good accelaration that allows him to turn the corner and go up field. Good vision / patience. Physical won't shield from hits. Good pass catcher. Fumbles a lot. Runs too upright, which leaves for big hits, hence the fumbles. Forgets to switch the ball to outside arm at times. Bad locker room presence

David Johnson - Big body. Falls forward for yards. Can still outrun DBs. Good pass catcher, mismatch for LBs. Needs to shorten his stride to get more power absorbing hits. Has trouble making cuts without almost completely stopping. Needs to dev. Vision. Use his body to his strength to drag tacklers. Instead goes down too easy.

T.J. Yeldon - Deceptive speed & agility. Which makes Def guess wrong, and miss tackles. Effortless lateral cuts. And makes people miss in space. Quick to the holes, and good vision to see cutback lanes. Can plant and explode to turn corner. Needs to run lower to the ground. Sets himself up for big hits. Below average pass blocker. If the hole isn't there, he becomes indecisive, and will wait too long.

Jeremy Langford - Stays low. Improved as a SR (vision, balance, finishing). Workhorse. Will take hits and give them. Does not tire at all. Superb pass protection, screen passes. Not much cutting. Slows considerable when cutting. Takes a bit to turn on jets when he turns it down to cut. Lacks patience. Often runs into blockers. Concern of workload at Michigan St.

Duke Johnson - Athletic. Can switch gear effortlessly. Patient runner, takes his time then goes upfield. Tough to bring down despite being small. Lack of size makes him vulnerable. Probably needs a 2 back system. Size hurts in pass protection. Comparable - Justin Forsett

Javorius Allen - Well built back, muscule wise. Aggressive, but is controlled / shows good judgement in where he is aggressive with the ball. Goos combination of power and acceleration. Hit the def. jar loose and keep moving. Legs churn for extra yards. Soft hands, and can adjust to make tough grabs. Most of his 6 feet is in his legs, so make it easy to get him if you go low. If tripped up will flail his arms, and go down easy. No breakaway speed. At best 2 down back

Mike Davis - Compact frame. Keeps feet moving. And bounces off defenders like pinball. Great spin move. In red zone, adept at grinding out yards. Capable as receiver. Capable pass protection due to strong frame. Hip tightness restricts lateral movement. Won't fool defenders with jukes. Ducks his head too often and makes him blind to potential holes in the line and second level. Wore down in 2013. Nagging injuries in 2014. Conditioning questions.
