anyone down to play Striking Vipers tonight? LOL

Also, it is easy to hate Cyrus so I feel if SHE wasn't the star of the episode it would have gotten more praise .

If the star would have been someone like KeKe Palmer or Yara Shahidi, I think things would be viewed different.
Nah. The quality has dipped from prior seasons. The episode was just ok. Nothing remarkable about the plot or actors to make it standout to previous Black Mirror material. It wasn't bad, it was just eh. Now episode 2 was a waste of my time

Can I ask what the execution difference was between eps like USS Calister, Black Museum or White Christmas and this one?
The story was trite. Like I originally said it gave me Lifetime vibes. Take out The sci-fi angle and its just evil aunt OD taking over pop star niece's life to make endless profits and another story of weird depressing girl obsession with said pop star.

It didn't dig deep in to the human condition or the sci-fi angle; the doll containing a copy of her consciousness and it really couldnt cuz one part of the story was making the lonely girl feel better and the other part is after the limited are off is getting down to the plot of the aunt imprisoning the niece in a coma and using her mind to churn out new music.

At best there's an argument that the ep was an example of how new technology bordering on sci-fi can be used to exploit and inhumanely use/torture ppl but other episodes have done that better.

USS Callister was about a loser nerd using copies of co-workers consciousness he uploaded in to his own video game secluded off where he could basically be a god. It's like a play off that Twilight Zone ep where the kid had control of an entire town and sent any adults that upset or disobeyed him to the "cornfield". Nothing new but the conceit is in the ppl fighting back and finding a way to get from under foot of a "God". Entertaining if anything. The story and its structure is ome of reveals as you root for the crew. First its revealed its not real, then its revealed these arent the actual ppl jthemicopies of them. It begins put the entire story in a more focused context. Its constantly questioning right and wrong given we're dealing with a simulation involving non-people so to speak.

Black Museum was a literal anthology episode. Some person in charge of some place or in a campfire format or the setting of a trial gives the opportunity for various short stories to be told amd the larger story resolves itself by showing the connection of who is telling the story and whoever else is there. They've done this on The Outer Limits (with its own episodes) and I'm pretty sure Tales of the Crypt. It's a pretty old and classic storytelling technique. I'm sure it has some name if you're a literature major. The execution for that is simple and quality is directly in the short stories and how you make it connect in the end. Execution was good simply cuz of the sci-fi tropes all mostly playing a part for the reveal and conclusion.

White Xmas was ******* excellent. Put aside the really good acting and on point dialogue what makes the execution of the story different and so much better than the Miley one is it takes a well used trope/mystery of 2 strangers stuck in a place together and works the reveals of the story well as well as the twist. Plus it deals with multiple sci-fi concepts. The mystery just unraveled really well. It starts off making you think its one premise but Hamm's character gives you insight that it is deeper than that to the point you begin to grasp the bigger premise of how they ended up where they are. Plus the stories are just very engaging and use the sci-fi and future tech well.

White Xmas puts a crazy twist on the notion of blocking ppl qnd social media. One that if you give it some thought is quite terrifying. Also, within Hamm's character's story he deals with a version of the doll with the consciousness of a person but its some egg thing thats suppose to like change the actual person's home to their preferences.

Then the other guy's story gets told and you zee how this concept can be applied to a differrnt part of your life to negative results.

Probably just talked myself in to watching White Xmas again  :pimp:

For one, I didn't buy the whole premise of how they went about extracting music from her dreams. Felt really contrived and convenient for the story and not convenient at all for making actual music. I did think it was cool when they adjusted things and showed how the tone of a song could completely change with the exact same lyrics.

They way they managed to get past the bodyguard felt kind of absurd, but again felt like they wanted to get the characters to a certain points without working through all the boring logic.

The concept of transferring all of a person's personality, and isolating just the prepackaged pop star portion? Felt convenient again for the sake of the story. Worked out for the story overall, but again felt like they took some logical leaps to establish some things.

But this episode felt like a real change of pace. It felt a lot less like it was supposed to spark discussion or make you deeply consider some wild concepts that are pretty close to being reality. The concepts were there, and it's an interesting concept...just didn't feel fully fleshed out and examined.
They totally glossed over the other new tech they introduced. They were solely there to serve a purpose. Get to point A to point B.

You could do an entire ep on extracting new ideas from unconscious ppl's minds. Get the right sci-fi pseudo science explanation and you might be able to extend it to dead ppl. Think still getting new music from Prince.

Apply it differently and arguably, you can hook that up to babies and parents could communicate with them.

So I guess the lack of deep dive really took you out of it, it seems. It can be a bit of a let down when the episodes don't completely engage you mentally. The episode really didn't leave you with many lingering thoughts as the show tends to do.

You pretty much nailed what the episode was really highlighting IMO. It probably makes it a little harder to dive in-depth the tech, while keeping the episode at 1hr while also fleshing out the characters on both ends of the story. If they would have stayed with Ashley-O and her aunt I feel like it could've talked about better from a memory/dream extraction standpoint.

But I think they also wanted to show some slight perils with loading only a portion of a persons consciousness into a mass produced doll to sell to children. While her sister didn't really understand the doll itself and what all was actually there, she was really concerned about her sister's attachment to the doll. After the talent show they girl is pretty bummed and said something like "I let Ashley down". I think that's pretty big. It illustrates an unhealthy attachment to an AI. Which kind of begs the question; Without the limiter on, is the relationship between person and doll as unhealthy?

White Xmas was ****ing excellent.

I gotta be the only person that wasn't blown away by WC. Unpopular Opinion: I don't think it makes my Top5 eps.

Using the tech to look communicate with babies would be pretty good, and could act as a prequel or continuation to Arkangel.

And falcon imo aint gay he smashing a sexy asian chick

His best friend though.

We really questioning if falcon is gay and we ain't seen dude show 1 bit of interest in any female in the MCU and the way he follows Steve around like a puppy dog

Even in this dude got that fine azzzzzz woman at home.. but gotta hit that video game to go see is homeboy.. even his kid literally tried kicking him out of it

Wasn't no computer program telling dude "I love you" and meeting up in the rain.. and having their pregnant wife having to come out of bed in the middle of the night to bail dude out

:nerd:
WHOA. We starting to get a whole new outlook on this scene.

Really just dawned on me he hasn't shown any interest in women in the MCU.

Trailer was posted in Netflix trailer by someone else.

Falcon out here trying to assimilate all the Dudes in the Netflix Universe. Hilarious it started with a dude from a show called The Get Down.
:smh::smh::smh:

I was pleased to see “On a Roll” in the Apple Music store. Was on repeat yesterday.

Bro I seen that in the 'currently trending' song area of Apple Music over the weekend. Crazy that people are playing it like that. Like currently top 30, if not better.

This season wasn't the best. Average at best.
Striking Vipers - Crazy concept. That first scene where things were getting weird had me screaming WTF.... I can see this happening in the future. B+
Smithereens - Felt like a mix of previous episodes. Not a bad thing though. I liked how they kind of left the ending open ended. B
Ashley Too - Interesting concept. Didn't mind Miley but this felt like a Disney Channel episode. C

Felt flat for it being only 3 episodes. Kind of killed my hype for whenever next season comes out.
