My guess is they cut the top part of the bail down the middle and widened the angle a bit. Then added some gold to where they cut it to close up the gap, looks like they rounded the top of the bail some too.

think about it like auto body work.



they cut open da bail, added about a 1/2 a inch of scrap 14k gold sheet metal of identical thickness, tig/mig welded it to both ends of da sides that were cut, sand down, and polished into uniformity with da rest of da bail.
