After two days away from the football field following Thursday night’s preseason win over Washington, the Patriots will take to the practice field today at 3:15 p.m.
Rumor is the Patriots will be going hard for the next three days before Thursday’s game vs. the Eagles. These are the final three practices open to the public.
We’ll be back with the highlights.
Here we go:
Practice is wrapping up. Some additional thoughts:
- Not spotted initially: RB Sony Michel, RB Rex Burkhead, LB Harvey Langi, RT Marcus Cannon, WR Kenny Britt.
- CORRECTION: WR Kenny Britt is on the field and taking part.
- S Jordan Richards, who left the preseason game after a headshot, is on the field.
- Biggest lineup change to this point: Isaiah Wynn is the second-team right tackle.
- Britt, Trey Flowers and Jason King are on the rehab field.
- CB Jonathan Jones is back in the mix and starting at nickel.
- Braxton Berrios had a nice back shoulder from Brady in 1 on 1s.
- Brady went deep up top to Edelman with Van Noy of all people in coverage.
- Decker and Edelman working with the QBs during a special teams period. Gronk and Lucien have joined in.
- Trent Brown and Adrian Clayborn had two good battles in 1 on 1s. Brown soundly beat him twice.
- As expected, Ja’Whaun Bentley is getting more looks with the starters.
- A lot of drops from receivers in 11 on 11s with the wet conditions.
- Keionta Davis is getting a look as a sub rusher. He was playing for Trey Flowers.
- A little bit more intensity today.
- Lot of Bentley with the starters.
- Jason McCourty was second-team right corner.
- Had Brady with 12 of 15 in 11 on 11s, Hoyer 10 of 15.
Brady had a full workload and was sharp: After basically having most of nine days off leading into Sunday’s practice, Tom Brady was back in full effect in this practice and, despite the wet conditions, was 24 of 32 (75 percent) in competitive situations, including the first lengthy and competitive session of one-on-ones between receivers and cornerbacks of camp. Brady was even better when you consider that two of his incompletions were drops. Brady didn’t show any ill effect from his reported sore back. His 32 competitive attempts were equal to what he did in the previous 10 days combined. Brady’s banner day pushed him to 83 of 117 for camp (70.9 percent).
Competition at left tackle is all but over: We thought that left tackle would be one of the best battles of camp — between veteran Trent Brown, first-round pick Isaiah Wynn and perhaps Marcus Cannon — but it was more like a knockout by Trent Brown, who started there Day 1 and hasn’t budged. Wynn was moved to right tackle for this practice — he had been at left up until now — and even got a few looks with the starters. Cannon continues to be out and you have to wonder if/when he’ll be back, and whether he’ll have a job when he returns.
Bentley, Jones get into the mix: Rookie LB Ja’Whaun Bentley was one player who jumped out in Thursday’s preseason game and the coaches must have liked what they saw because he was fully in the mix with the starters today. Now, there was a heavy rotation going on between Bentley, Elandon Roberts, Kyle Van Noy and Dont’a Hightower, but there’s no question Bentley was heavily mixing with the starters and was even calling plays. … CB Jonathan Jones, who is coming back from foot surgery after the Titans playoff game, was a full go at practice today and basically reclaimed his place as the top nickel cornerback (over rookie Duke Dawson). Jones showed he’s close to being back when he had great coverage against Julian Edelman in 1-on-1s.

assuming tonight goes as a normal 3rd pre-season game dress rehearsal, i'd like to see:
- NO ****ING INJURIES
I'm yelling at the TV every time Hogan or Jules try to stretch a play out. Like naw, just go down.
