The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

I wouldn't even add a Mark 3 to a drone. I would realistically add a crop frame camera and just shoot daytime shots. Long exposures or night shots would just look bad on a drone anyways. At least some daytime shots with a crop would look good.

^ Could you post a full sized photo taken from the camera? I'm curious how good the image quality is on the camera.

To be honest, image quality is kind of garbage, the IQ falls apart pretty quickly when you push em too far or crop in too much.  It's more about being able to get unique angles than top notch IQ. Here's a few RAW files if anyone wants to download/play with em

as dope as the mavic's small footprint is, i decided the phantom 4 pro was the better option mainly because of the bigger sensor & aperture control but also i think the phantom controller is better...i don't really find the phantom series to be that cumbersome, it fits in my normal backpack (which doesn't have all that much room)

I've been lurking in this thread for a bit and hate to ask this question b/c most of y'all are pros at this, but can y'all recommend a DSLR?

It'll be my first DSLR. I've been using an iphone and an old point and shoot and heavily editing, but that has its limitations of course. I'd like to get to the point that I could turn this into a side business, but I know that's a long ways off. If a side biz never got goint I wouldn't be devastated I'd like the ability to take dope pics for myself at least. So, for right now it's more important to me to get better and take great pics for myself. So I guess I shouldn't get the cheapest right nor the most expensive?

It's kind of overwhelming with so many models, so I plan on going to a local camera shop and renting a camera for a weekend for a few weeks to hold it in my hands and see what works best for me. Any suggestions on what I should rent? I rather get NT's opinion, I don't always trust a salesperson.

I'm no pro, but I own a canon 70d and I love it. It's my go to. Make sure you buy the body only and figure out a lens with a nice low aperture if you dig portrait pictures and such.

A big part of the decision is picking a brand. Not because one brand is better than the other but because of the $$$ involved. Its cheaper to pick and continue to get more and more gear vs starting over 3 times.

Dang near any model released in the past ~3-4 years will be marginally different in terms of the final image it produces vs another model.

The real magic happens in the lens.

Here's a run down of some of the options canon offers:

Canon EOS Rebel T5 Digital SLR Camera Kit with EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens... Rebels are great because they're not too expensive and really allow you to explore IF you want to pursue photography.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens (if you want some awesome background blur)

The canon 70d is a great choice if you plan on diving into any video recording.

The canon 7d mark ii is a great choice if you plan on shooting fast action like sports

Should be back in the game next week. Waiting on a response to my offer to a seller on Ebay

Set my sights on a Used D7000 that'll come with a tripod, monopod, the battery grip, and 18-105mm lens. I want to get a prime lens as my portrait lens but can't find one under $200 so I'll prob have to make this kit one work for a lil while. Kinda sad I can't get the D2x but it's just a bit behind the times and I need something a bit more modern.

I busted out my 35L for the first time in over a year almost and I felt like I missed focus on a few shots during a shoot :wow: :frown:

Not sure if it was me or what. I need to get back to using primes though.

Anyone know of a really good tabletop studio I can use to take pictures of products to be uploaded to an ecommerce site? Needs to have a white background, so the background cannot be seen.
