^ The 5300 is more expensive because its in a higher class than the T5i. Nikons comparable would be the 3XXX series camera. Also, that 18-140 lens that came with it is of higher quality than the 18-55 kit lens that comes w/ the T5i in that bundle, as well as the 75-300mm.

B&H is one of the most reputable camera places around.

There's a lot of things you have to consider:
1. The D5300 is only about a year old while the T5i is going on 2. So again, older models will be cheaper.
2. As stated in the above post the lens included in the kit makes a difference
3. All that "fluff" included in the bundle can be found cheap regardless if you buy it now or later.
4. That bundle is only being shipped from Amazon, not sold. The seller is Focus Camera. The feedback looks good, but at the same time you can't be sure if your getting good quality, gray market, out of warranty products from them (Doesn't seem to be the case though)
5. B&H (along with places like Adorama) are well known photography and video retailers.

In any case, if you're returning the item just to have "more stuff" for the same price, try Costco's or Sam's Club.

The D5300 has better specs than a T5i. You're complaining about how little you got for the money - welcome to photography. It's an incredibly expensive hobby.

And B&H is a reputable store.

Most of the stuff in that T5i bundle you posted are crap and will most likely be replaced.

If the price of it really bothers you that much you could always return it and buy something used, bet it a T5i or an older model.

The next level up from the 5300 is the 7000 and that one costs about the same for just the body as you got for the kit. You'll be happy you got what you got cause I'm kinda sad that I only got the D7100 and not the D600

Absolutely true. Photography is 1 hobby I've found that you almost always get what you pay for.

I'd hold on to the gift and not even worry about returning it for a lesser cam w/ more cheapo peripherals.

Copped a new Macbook and need to put lightroom back on this. Kind of afraid to get into torrents on a brand new (expensive) laptop so I'm probably going to purchase...my little bro is in college and has an .edu email so should I just buy the student version and use his credentials to access it or is that going to run me into problems later? Is it just a one time use code or what? Any advice would be appreciated photog fam.

These are two pics I took a couple week's ago I edited them a pinch and I liked the way they game out but I don't care for how the back drop is it looks dull, I used plain ole window lighting and I have one adjustable LED lamp

Should I have two lamps on both sides to increase the total lighting or use a different type of lamp/bulb?

Camera equipment is all about losing money. I copped a new Mark 2 3 years ago on a Canon rebate deal for $1,800 and I think the going rate for a used one is like a $1000. Even when getting a deal, you'll end up losing.

Even the route you are going and if you like photography that much, you will eventually upgrade to a full frame and be forced to sell all your DX lenses. I think for the most part, just jump into shooting regardless of the prices that were paid and see if it is your general poison. You can definitely make that money worth while as long as you use that thing.

Torrents are relatively safe. the site i use has comments so people let you know which torrents are safe or aren't

Okay, someone sell me on full-frame. I tell myself I'll probably stick to DX forever because I'm not that serious. I typically shoot at family parties, events with friends, and when I take random trips on my motorcycle. Basically whenever I shoot it's never the primary focus. That being said do you guys think I'll eventually feel the need to upgrade to full-frame? I know when it all comes down to it I'm the only one that can answer that but I'd like to hear some thoughts. What eventually made you make the jump?

I'm not at all familiar with the camera but I think it depends on what you're going to be shooting and why. And what exactly do you mean when you say "professional" photos? I've seen some SICK shots with cell phones; the quality of an image really depends on the person behind the camera. I know some people that buy some pricey camera's to take pictures for Facebook and for when they list items on eBay and such. If that's what you need a camera for I personally believe cell phones have come far enough that they can be used for those purposes. 

If you're buying a camera because you're trying to get into photography I don't think this one would be a very good choice. From the looks of it it seems that you don't have the option to shoot in manual mode. If you want to get into photography I'd suggest getting a camera that allows you more control over your settings. And do you really need all that zoom range? Again, this depends on what you're going to be using the camera for and why. If zoom is something you feel you'll be using a lot then I suppose this camera would be good. 

It really depends on you dude; figure out what you're going to be using the camera for and why. Then I think you'll be able to get more appropriate feedback from the people in this thread.

Nothing wrong w/ having a crop sensor forever. You'll feel the urge to shoot full frame when photography does become that serious to you.
