^^^^You want to lighten your blacks. I do it in photoshop but I am sure you can do it in Lightroom or other edit photos. Even in some cell phone apps, it's called fade but in photoshop you can use then the exposure tab adjust the offset slider.

you can also use level or curve adjustment or adjustment layers...
i'm the worst at this but i think in anything creative you just have to get over "being inspired" that is, to be appropriately cliche for the site "just do it" you can't just wait for inspiration, sometimes it helps to limit your options or give yourself some artificial constraint(s)...

Edit old pictures.
I don't know. I'm always inspired, just either lazy or don't have time. Best way to shoot more is by shooting more. Take your camera out more often, the phrase "out of sight, out of mind" is true. I am always looking at YouTube videos, CreativeLive, 500px, FStoppers, magazines, IG, and FB looking at other peoples work or researching techniques, tips, and tricks.

Honestly i'm really trying to put together an image of NYC from a perspective people may not get every single day. NYC is home to amazing architecture, graffiti etc etc plenty of things to shoot, however i don't think the mood is captured correctly, and other perspectives aren't viewed. Through this project i hope to do that, I also want to take some of these photos and eventually put together a portfolio/ Story through picture

Finally purchased a 10-18mm yesterday and will test it out tomorrow throughout my day off.
At this point I own....
-18-55 kit lens
-24mm pancake prime
-40mm pancake prime
-50mm 1.8
-55-250mm
So obviously I'm going for the most bang for my buck. Friends keep telling me to save up for L lenses, but financially at he moment that's a no go.
I enjoy doing everything from landscape, street stuff, portraits, music festivals, etc. any other bang for the buck lenses (under $500) I should add?

For the wedding/event photographers, what lighting setup do you use for receptions? Right now I just use a 600EX and shoot with the 35L on a 5D3. Do you all use off camera flash set ups?

I've seen photographers with flashes set up around the hall and they trigger anytime the photographer shoots. I don't know how bright that makes the room though. I think it changes the ambiance of the photos from "dark/intimate" to "bright/lively" if the entire place is lit up in every shot.
I just keep a flash on my camera so I know whats in front of me is exposed right.
Also consider anyone else there doing production. Sometimes the people doing video have huge spotlights pointing at the couple/celebrants or on the dance floor. It would be bright enough where I don't need my personal flash on.

Digital Rev's review on the Canon 11-24mm. God damn....that lens looks huge on the body. Lens just doesn't seem practical for all around use but the lens continues to to get great reviews but comes with a price.

Can anyone school me on Metering? Like the difference between Evaluative/Matriix, Center-weighted, and spot metering. Which one do you typically use the most?

i almost never think about this...every once in a while i'll change it, but it is mostly center or multi, i don't think i've ever really purposely used spot metering, didn't totally understand it; maybe i should be considering this more...

Ok so I got 2 yongnuo 560 IV and a yn622c-tx.
I can get them to fire off of my pop up flash but when I mount the yn622c-tc on the hot shoe I can't seem to get them to fire off that. Is this by design or am I doing something wrong?
I tried setting the flash to RX and putting it on the right channel and group.

Here are a few from my stay in tokyo. The first is out of focus but it's the only photo i have. Collection of 10,000+ vinyls from jazz, funk, instrumentals, and 80-90's hip hop. For me this place was everything. Small, chill, good drinks and great music.

You may need an additional receiver. Those speedlights have a slave function which works with any flash and I believe the RX mode only works it you have one of the flashes mounted on your hot shoe. As crazy as it may seem the transmitter you have may be firing but your flashes don't know it because the frequencies may be completely different even though they are both sold from the same company.
Trouble-shooting tips:
* make sure your transmitter is firing (there should be an led indication).
* make sure your flashes are not set to slave mode.
* try hitting test button on different groups and channels to see if you get any response at all.
If nothing works you may need this.

I bought a set of Phottix Ares Triggers. I travel with my flashes so it make life easy.
