Idk, I’m not the most technical guy by any means but I see people talking about how some their games (Silent Hill 2 and Alan Wake 2) somehow being worse on the Pro and it boggles my mind. I guess you could blame the devs. I was hyped for the Pro but for $700, I expect my guys to hit a locked 60 and to definitely perform better than the base PS5.

I think due to sticker shock (which I still don't understand in 2024), most people are overthinking it.

My short review of the Pro is that I could not go back to the standard device without being super annoyed. The way it maintains frames is wild, and from a graphics perspective I'm only using a 1440P display. Coming from a medium gamer with a 4090 desktop as well, the Pro truly blurs the lines between high-end PC gaming and console gaming—finally. And again, the Pro just launched. For it to be as good as I have experienced this early is impressive, and it has exceeded my expectations.

I've heard some titles are not ready, just haven't experienced this myself.

Maybe I’m just salty but I’d prefer they figure out a way to ensure majority of games hit a locked 60 fps before worrying about raytracing. I feel like that feature demands so much and isn’t really worth it.

We get that now with game modes. A lot of games will strip back Ray Tracing, resolution or some other feature to hit 60fps.
Honestly this gen, I'm pretty impressed with the amount of games running at 60fps.

Uncharted, Bloodborne, Spider-Man, Horizon, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima and many more on PS4 were all 30fps. Now, pretty much the whole SIE 1st party lineup has a 60fps mode with good performance. If Intergalatic has a 60fps mode then we've won.

Consoles will struggle with some engines like UE5. Capcom's RE engine too for open world games. MH Wilds on base PS5 will definitely have some performance issues.
From Software games will always have framerate or frame time issues and they don't really care.

We've not really seen the full effects of Ray Tracing on consoles. It's pretty much dialled back except for F1 2024 on the Pro.
When we start getting console games that look like CyberPunk 2077 on PC with Ray Tracing, we wouldn't want to go back. We just need AMD to step up.

Pro has hardware for Ray Tracing and ML that base PS5 doesn't have. Expect that to be dialled up and better on PS6.
Also, I don't see 8K taking off so PS6 will be the first time the resolution targets will stay the same.

PS1 - 240p
PS2 - 480p
PS3 - 720P
PS4 - 1080p
PS5 - 4K
PS6 - 4K

I think the future's bright.

Games being worse on the pro are a minority and its all to do with IQ and not performance. They're worse in that PSSR is not working well with the game so its degrading the IQ.
The actual performance is better since the Pro has a better GPU. A lot of games with unlocked framerates and no Pro patch are peforming better.

Devs are kinda to blame a bit for not reviewing games before releasing the patch. It shouldn't need Digital Foundry to point out basic flaws that should been picked out in testing.
All they did for Silent Hill was add a toggle to turn off PSSR so you can use the normal anti-aliasing model on PS5 and still benefit from the better GPU.

It is a true upgrade. I definitely didn’t need to buy one, but it isn’t smoke.

I am on a 4K 144hz HDR gaming monitor and it is pretty incredible. The 4k checkboard upscale for last gen games is 🔥🔥. Now I just need to actually play the games one day.

86 hours; I guess your 90 hour play through was pretty accurate

I got caught up trying to max archetypes. I probably added a few hours by switching archetypes whenever I'd max them out instead of just keeping the maxed out archetype and grinding for Leaf of Light. I wanted to go for the platinum but not sure if I have it in me to do another playthrough. For me, the game overstayed its welcome.

I missed maxing out my SL with Basillio for some reason... and I beat the 3 dragons but didn't have enough time to do the final dungeon to get the ultimate dragon weapon or whatever, so I would like to go back and do that on my 2nd play through, which I always do in Japanese and at a higher difficulty, even though it's still easy with having all your weapons and classes leveled.

My son also missed out on Basilio. I just want to fight the super boss but again, I don't know how I feel about playing all the way through to the end game.

Rebirth is still my #1 game this year with Metaphor being #2. They're both too long, imo.

I haven't played COD in like 10 years, b06 is like Fortnite man. :lol

it's just money grabs for stupid skins, Microsoft killed it.

match making is trash, free for all is ok though.
