Brilliant find... 40GB??

I camped out at Walmart for that guy at launch, they put us all in the garden center. When the sale finally started, they only had 7-8 units... was heartbroken after it finally retired and I had to get a slim.
Truth be told the previous homeowner left it in my basement and I boxed it up and sent to my parents since they love hoarding stuff I don’t want. Went over and retrieved it after hearing that these are sought after now. I know it works since it was still hooked up to the entertainment center when we bought the house but I had a PS4 and didn’t think I would revisit an older console. Now I’m curious to set it back up and see what’s on the HD, no idea of the capacity atm. I’m sure the controllers and power supply are still around but I couldn’t find it them at the time.

Memory lane, aka Team Washed.

I camped at my Best Buy for a couple days while studying for finals. I was like number 20 in line. BB employees showed up the night before release and started their own line at the exit door. They told us we were in the wrong line and needed to get behind them. **** flared up and cops had to come out. BB ended up telling us to re-line up in new order. I ended up #2. Was able to scoop up 1 of 4 60GB they got in stock. And being #2 I avoided the news team waiting outside to interview the first person to buy one.

Same 60Gb YOLD in early 2012. I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away. Was setting up my slim last time I threw some pics on here and figured I’d look it back up. Turns out some random (now the famous, RIPFelix) became the expert on this and figured out what we needed to do. Was able to pull it out last summer and get it Frankie’d with a 40nm RSX.

Now I have added even more games to my backlog. I was already running a backlog from the PS3 days. Probably added 20-30 games I never would have tried back in the day. But PS3 game prices are starting to creep up so I figured I’d finish my physical collection.

Wow... I can't even remember what I did with my 60GB after it failed... your story burns a litte, I keep so much but didn't hold onto that guy... grrr

Freebie - very nice.

I had a 60GB PS3 I imported from Japan... it was great being able to plau all my JP PS1/2 games. It never got YLOD but one day the GPU started acting up and it went all Matrix on me... everything turned green.

Ended up selling it to this Japanese dude in Chicago via Craiglist. Probably was a pretty easy fix for him.

The PS3 launch me and friend went to was nuts and literally like a scene out of a Jackass movie

Me and my friend camped and went to a nearby circuit city launch. The store was not allowing people to line up and camp. They had private security and were making people wait at the nearby other stores and fast food places in the mall. It was literally a foot race once they opened the store to sell the PS3's. Some guys even raced in on dirt bikes and mopeds :lol. San Diego police eventually did get called in because of the chaos.

After all that literally 2 days later I walked into a local Best Buy and was able to get a 60 GB PS3 right off the shelf with no hassle.

That green is an RSX failure (if it wasn’t bad hdmi cable). It has to be Frankie’d at that point. Re-balling probably wouldn’t even save it.

Yeah. There were a group of red neck reseller thugs that showed up at my location. After they stole spots 3/4 the remaining ones were out doing donuts in their truck in the parking lot every night when the cops weren’t around.

You got lucky finding a 60Gb days later. After launch they were pretty much impossible to find and I want to say they moved on to the the next model without hardware BC rather quick. If I remember right, my BB got 6 20Gb, so 10 total and that’s all I ever saw of the fat models there until the emulated BC models started releasing.

We talk about resellers now. Those 60Gb were going for 4-6k on EBay back then (well listed at least. I remember some of the 4k ones selling. And many many bids in the 2-3k range. I contemplated selling mine. But decided against it)

Sony started removing the full backwards compatibility hardware from the PS3 starting with the 40GB/80GB model that released like 1 or 2 years later.

Yeah. My memory was a year later. Looked it up. Nov 2007, so basically a year to the day. The A and B models have a ps2 chip inside them. Sony probably wanted to move on from that asap.

The 60Gb were very hard to come by.

Do you guys trust used systems from GameStop?
I don’t. I was a menace when I was younger. The moment a console or accessory of mine stared trippin’, it went to GameStop. That’s actually how I got my first X360. My PS2 started to black screen but would still restart and let you play for a while. I took it and all my PS2 games to Game Crazy and got traded it all in and got about $400+. I had so many games that when I looked at the receipt later, I noticed some of the games were counted twice

Tl:dr: stay away from used consoles unless you’re comfortable with and trust the previous owner.

I figured but I wanted to ask here first. Thx.

Good Lordt... A car I am considering for purchase, close to a car I've owned 3 of (CRX Si), and a clone of my favorite sim racing open wheeler class… all in one update... SHEESH. Hadn’t used the VR headset since I updated the rig, this demands it.

As always, thanks for sharing.

I had hope that the "boxy hatch" was the Volvo 850R wagon, but I have no complaints that it's the EF Civic hatch. An absolute JDM classic.

And the early 90's F1 will be 🔥
Gonna make all those classic old-school liveries.
