Polo has always been cool. Slick Rick was the first I heard rapping about Polo.
I saw guys in Brooklyn in 1989 in East flatbush wearing ski gooses.
I heard a friend call the ski jacket the suicide when we were in kings plaza to see Bat Man 1.

He told me if you wore that jacket they would literally try to kill you for it.
None of these kids were Lo Lives.

The leader of BMW (Brooklyn's Most Wanted) crew in Brooklyn had on a suicide ski jacket after the Bat Man movie let out.
A whole mob of them were chilling in front of the escalator where the movie theater was.
That was the first time I saw that jacket.

Lo Lives kept wearing Polo after everybody moved on to DKNY Hilfiger and Ice Berg.
They kept it going. Most were not wearing Polo heavy after 95 to 2003.
Kanye made it cool again from 2003 to 2005 then he switched to Louis Vuitton Don mode.

2005 to 20013, Polo was dead again.
Then everybody went crazy when that preppy sweater around the waist
bear came back in 2013.

Then it died down til 2016. Thats when the martini bear dropped.
Then the retro phase started in 2017 with Stadium.

Lo Lives kept it going when everybody stopped wearing Polo in those dead periods.
Im talking about in the hood. Not in the world. lol

Dude we didnt see that movie in the summer. Back in those days movies ran in the theater
for damn near 6 months to a year . What decade were you in? I saw that movie in the holiday season.
People used to see hit movies 3 to 4 times and sneak in repeatedly in those days.

Matter of fact the kids I saw the movie with already saw it. My cousin took me and my other cousin to see it because we were the only ones that didnt see it.

All of this! I was waiting for you ring the school bell. I've learned a lot about the history of the RL culture from this thread over the years. What yourself, and all of the other OGs that lurk the thread have shared here is always appreciated. That's coming from an older guy that didn't get pulled into RL until 2006

That is wikipedia and box office mojo info. Films ran more than 6 months in theaters at that time. Unprecedented because it ran "less" than the usual 6 months. RARE. Released in June. It was supposed to run til new year 1990.

I was in JR high at that time. So you might be right. It could be the circle ski I saw the guy wearing that night. But we didnt consider that one the suicide because there was a
triple fat goose that looked like the Polo circle ski coat. My little friends considered the flag ski the real suicide coat. They both are now considered equal I guess.

This is leather. The Polo version was a copy of this coat. Thats what many say.
