Sony factories 'running flat out' to meet PS4 demand

Sony’s factories are “going to be running flat out” to manufacture enough PlayStation 4 hardware to meet demand, Sony Europe boss Jim Ryan has said.

Speaking to EDGE about the demand for the console, Ryan said, “Factories are going to be running flat out the way demand is looking.

“There’s an awful lot of core gamers out there now and we will be selling to them certainly in this part of the world.”

Sony has already secured over one million pre-orders for PS4 – a figure it could struggle to fulfil for launch day.

The platform holder has previously notified customers that any orders placed after August 5 may not be delivered in time for launch day, but additional stock may become available as it finalises allocation.

consoles last 10 years, generations dont

this current generation was an anomaly with the skyrocketing rise in dev costs along with the ps3's insane launch price

future generations wont be like this one
The PS3 will have a much longer lifespan than the PS2.

I thought there would be a new video format or something, but I'm glad they stuck with blu-ray.

From what I read on a BD wiki, BD future proofed itself. By being able to add multiple layers on a single disc. A single layered BD is 25gb(I think) and a dual- layered BD is 50gb(I think.) I would confirm this, but you get the point. More layers on one disc means more media can be stored on it.

So the highest capacity BD right now, is 500gb.

The highest is 128GB for the 4 layer disk but that needs a special player.

As it stands PS4 will only be able to read dual layer which is 50GB since only a few games came close to using that amount.

However, they are working on a standard to deliver 4K movies and digital alone won't be good enough so they might make another disk with at least 100GB which the PS4, after a firmware update will be able to play.

I can't see Sony making a new format without a console to push it. They won't really need it for games but they will for 4K.

You're sharing your profile with your friend to share games... You use your phone app to download a game. I wonder which console will turn on.

Wouldn't it be associated with both?

I have my main account but I'm able to create a new profile but use his existing account info to access his downloads. its nothing serious, I'm just a bit curious to see how that works. I know there's been times I was playing with him online and he logs out in the middle of the game. He realized his little brother was logging into his profile to download games at the same time he was online playing a game.

so Shu Yoshida says that games cannot be installed to an external hard drive

before people over react, its most likely because of the streaming theyre going to be doing for games off the HDD, similar to this gen

it probably isnt feasible off a usb3 hd

and piracy

In that case, I have no idea.

How long do you guys think itll take for video games to get to the point that it looks like real life? Or would they never truly get there becuase of the realism and games that are bloody like gta.
I think technically we're there. Obviously the better the graphics, the more immense realism, but when I think of life like, I think of more than just graphics, I think of AI, human nature and tendencies, and games like The Last of Us and (to a lesser extent) Beyond: Two Souls come right to mind.

Not sure if this has been answered or not but will you be able to log in with more than one PSN ID? Will both PSN IDs be able to earn trophies?

Yep. Photorealism is close enough. We'll need huge leaps in AI and animations to make games life-like.

Can op update da first page of the improvements and why it is so good ..

def thinking about picking up the WiiU later on as a second system when Smash Bros comes out like I did for the Wii & Brawl this gen....especially since Megaman will be on the new Smash

SSB is the only reason why I bought a wii.
Yeah man I really only used it for that. Actually ended up kinda giving my Wii to my mom because she likes to play Sims on it and Wii Sports. Still play Brawl here at college w/ my roommates tho
