I'm in Govt contracting. Accepted an offer from another company that won the contract I supported almost 3 years ago. Its crazy that I'll be making nearly triple what I was making when I first started working on it.

I just want to share 3 things with anyone trying to move up: 1) Hard work doesn't go unnoticed, 2) Closed mouths don't get fed, and 3) Networking is crucial. Do your research, evaluate your worth relative to your field and function, and rub sholders with higher ups and clients. It's not about sucking up to them. Always be professional and personable. Small talk about weekend plans, aspirations, and little things like sports can go a very long way for you and your career.
