the thread about nothing...

I thought you had to be clean shaved. Just the movies?
Basically, the demographic depicted in the movies isn’t entirely accurate. Plus we get chits/profiles that allow us not to shave. Some people used to get permanent chits/profiles, but now the most they can get is 90 days. I’ve had a chit in some form since boot camp. As I’ve progressed “up the ranks” folks don’t even ask about it.

what exactly is a "chit"?

CHIT: voucher, receipt, letter, or note, entitling the bearer to special treatment, such as medical restrictions from duty; derived from Hindi word for 'letter', 'chitti'.

No but I'm confident that when you buy a pair or sneakers from SX, you wear them with the SX tag still on.
Nah, didn't u make a thread on ur burner about quitting stockx & crying in your car?

Seems like my coworker/close friend Amy is headed towards a downwards spiral again :frown: Struggling to think of ways to try to help her get out of this one.
Was talking to her earlier today on FB messenger and she said she was feeling weird and her body wouldn't move. The translated conversation below is in order but I skipped and left out some unimportant parts.

Amy: My body isn't working, [doesn't want to move]
Me: Weird symptom, did get any new medication or vaccine that could cause something like that?
Amy: No but I took some medication I'm not supposed to take
Me: Hmmm I think we found the cause
Amy: Hahaha. ****.Hopefully I don't die. My cats are looking at me real judgy
Me: Hahaha, what was the medication you took then?
Amy: The worst part is I'm actually not sure. I've been rummaging in my brother's secret stash

Me: Has the symptom gotten a bit better or worse in the meantime?
Amy: Yeah, I'm starting to overcome it with a small line [of coke]. But now I'm all out of coke.

Amy: Starting to slightly feel better. I came to the realization that what I took was very likely ketamine.
Me: That seems like a big problem to me. Do you happen to know the dosage?
Amy: 100mg

Amy: And haha with me you shouldn't feel ashmed [referring to my opioid addiction struggles]
In a month I got addicted to cocaine and I swallow/sniff everything I can find in the medicine cabinet. I found a super good doctor who wants to help me, I thought that'd be sufficient but apparently not.

Amy: I ordered 2 more grams of coke, pfft I'm really not doing well

You aren't the one who needs to get her out of the situation. She needs professional help through multiple avenues.

If you really want to help, that's what you need to get her to commit to doing.

She’s already getting professional help from her psychiatrist and now also from that other doctor she mentioned, specifically for the coke issue.

When she had suicidal thoughts during a depression earlier this year, she told me as the sole person and I did my best listening and comforting her. Within just 2 weeks later, she started to get back on her feet and subsequently had a streak of several months of consistent happiness. She said I was probably the main reason she found happiness again.

I do worry whether she’s fully honest with her psychiatrist. To the best of my knowledge, I’m still the sole person who knows about the suicidal thoughts despite my repeated pressure to at least also tell the psychiatrist.

How does an addict prevent their urges?

Thats a really tough spot for you to be in. The reality is that people in her shoes will do what they want, and are not easily influenced to make it out. Seems like the only thing you can do at this point is help her keep up with her appointments.

You just have to know, this isn't your issue to fix. You are not the problem solver here. You cannot be the one feeling responsible. I could say that all day. Do not beat yourself up. Much, much easier said than done, especially when it comes to someone you care about.

You don’t have to worry about the latter, nothing like that has any affect on my emotions. When she told me about the suicidal thoughts, I felt nothing despite valuing Amy as one of my closest friends.
I’m always described as a “warm and friendly” person but I’m essentially an emotional flatline. It has its positives and its negatives. In Amy’s case it’s helpful because when talking to me, her fear of dragging other people down with her just doesn’t apply and she becomes much more open about her feelings.

How does an addict prevent their urges?
Well you’re talking to an opioid addict right here. When I get those cravings, there’s virtually nothing I can do to get my brain to focus on something else, just gotta try to overload your brain with different thoughts/stimuli. My painkillers are locked in my mom’s safe with the key hidden away because I know for certain I wouldn’t be able to resist the cravings otherwise
