The place I go to just calls it a shawarma gyro
in the us most "gyros" are made up of pressed meat formed into a cone. shawarma is actual pieces of meat layered on top of each other.

all depends on the owner/whos cooking. ive been to places that are just nasty (usually old/cold food), but when it is done right, its heavenly. ask to try the meat before you buy [II]? and ask for the sauce on the side so you can control the amounts, some places drown it in sauce.
