Hes gonna get fired man, you dont have to do worry about it. Give it a monthOkay, ate dinner, chilled for a bit, still a bit heated, but STORY TIME.
As most of you know I do retail Loss Prevention for a living, besides catching shoplifters I'm also trained in bloodborn pathogens and human waste disposal, which is why we get substantially more than all the other employees in the store, and it's clearly stated in our responsibilities that it's our job or the manager's on duty job to clean it up.
Now one thing you guys need to know about me before I start this story, I have a high tolerance for a lot of things, talk **** to me all you want, as long as you don't touch me, we won't have a problem, but among all the things that don't bother me, one thing and one thing only has the ability to push me over the edge and throw professionalism out the window,
Attitude
If you have a ****** attitude, I want nothing to do with you, talk **** all you want, but if I'm stuck working with you, all I ask is that we respect each other, I don't step on anyone's toes, I'm cool with everyone in the store, I try not to piss anyone off, it's not in my nature at all to let things get to me or completely lose my ****.
Now, enough of that, story time.
We hired a new guy a couple months ago, seems like a cool dude, but he has a ****** attitude, everyone in the office cool with each other for the most part, but he comes to work, does his job, and leaves it at that, he makes no attempt to get to know us, which is okay, you don't wanna talk to us, cool, just don't be a **** and we'll all be good.
Now, today while I was at lunch, my co-worker comes into the break room, pulls up a chair and tells me "Someone threw up in women's" so I say "Okay, have we cleaned it up?", he responds with "No".
At this point I'm gonna refer to new guy as J, not gonna use his name, but he'll go by J for the story.
He goes to say "J answered the phone when they reported it, covered the receiver, and asked 'Who's gonna clean it up?' and before we could answer he said 'I'm not cleaning that **** up, it's not my ******g job to do it, and I'm not paid to do it' to which Gen and I responded with 'It's all of our jobs to clean it up, you answered the call so that means you're up' J immediately came back with 'Nope, not gonna do it' and hung up the phone."
I stop eating, because at this point I'm furious, he has no right to say something isn't his job, we all have to do it, we've all done it, we didn't like it, but it's our job to do it when it happens. I ask if he's still in the office, he tells me he is, I tell him let me finish up my lunch and I'll go take care of it and talk to him. Instead he insists we wait and talk to the store manager first, because this isn't the first time he's done it, the last time he flat out told the manager that he's not gonna do it, didn't own up to it and my other co-worker Duane caught the heat for it, while he was on shift that night, he wasn't in the office when they called, but our lead is a ***** and said he did it and gave him no chance to explain.
Store Manager gets back from lunch, we go into his office, give him the run down, he e-mails our boss and DM and says don't let it bother us. We leave his office, at this point I convinced my co-worker to just cleaning it up because it's never gonna get cleaned up if we wait for him to do it. We grab the cleaning supplies and go clean it up, while cleaning it up, J sees someone stealing, at no point does he get on the radio and ask where we're at, he just asks Gen if she knows where we're at and before she has time to call us he takes off running to go catch the guy. We head back to HR since we had to fill out some paperwork (We were going to hit overtime today so we had to sign an acknowledgment that basically says we gotta end out shifts when we hit 40 hours) and then we hear the radios go off, J just says "Both of you, back to the office now."
We go to the the office and sure enough he has a shoplifter sitting there, he starts the paperwork and we help him get everything together, the whole time the shoplifter is getting loud, begging and pleading to let him go, giving us a sob story, mind you, we have a ZERO tolerance policy, we catch you stealing, you're scum to us. But nope, J is telling the guy "Don't worry, I'll get a manager and we'll see if there's anything we can do" I put a stop to that immediately, I got the guys attention and straight up told him "We caught you stealing, you're a thief, I don't care about your wife and kids, you're going to jail today, the police have already been notified." the guy starts crying, J gives him a god damn soda to comfort him, police get there, they take him away and that's that.
As soon as the cop walks out we turn the bench, we all take a seat and tell J that we're having an emergency team meeting, he looks confused but just says alright. Matt opens with "In this department, we believe in teamwork, we're all a team right? As a team we all have responsibilities, some more than others, but for the most part, we all work together. Now what I'm getting at is that, none have the right to say something isn't our job, if it's in our job responsibilities, then we have to do, I've had to clean up piss, ****, throw up, I didn't like it, but I did it." My other co-worker and I chime and let him know we had to do it our first days here, we didn't like it, but again, it's our job. Matt continues "So as a team, we have to do our jobs, but if you refuse to do your job, then that means you're not a part of the team, so J, I'm gonna ask you, are you a part of this team?" J scoffs and says "Yeah, but I'm not gonna clean that **** up, so you (points at each of us) you or you can make me do it, I'm not gonna ******g do it, and you can tell our boss that I ******g said that." and that pissed me off.
So I chime in "We're being civil here, we're not getting loud with each other, but if you wanna take it to that level and get a little attitude with us then we can ******g do it your way." he snaps, looks dead at me and says "The **** did you say?" so I repeat myself, "If you're keep up with that little ******g attitude then we can talk it out like men, because we don't people like you here if that's how you're gonna act." so we start going back and forth and again he scoffs and laughs and said "I'm NEVER gonna clean **** up, and NONE of you are gonna make me do it, I'll call the boss right now and tell him." I'm about two seconds from hopping over the desk and knocking dude out, instead I just grab my stuff and tell him if he's gonna keep acting like a little ***** and have a little ***** attitude then I'm ******g done and walk out the office, he gets mad again and stands up but doesn't do anything, everyone walks out the office and leaves him in there by himself.
I go outside and call my boss, and straight tell him that I'm done with his ****, I'm liable to do something that's gonna cost me job.
Quick note about this, almost everyone in our department has had a one on one with the boss about someone there, but in the 2 years I've been with the company, I've never complained to him about anybody, so this caught him off guard big time.
He tells me to calm down, I explain the whole situation to him, along with what happened at the meeting, he tells me to stay out the office, stay away from him, and do something dumb.
I go back in the store, Matt's talking to the store manager and I join them, manager tells me to calm down, then proceeds to say "Tell J to go home, and don't come back till he comes and talks to me and your boss." Matt leaves to go tell him. Comes back even more mad than before and tells us that he told him to leave under direct orders from him and he just scoffed and laughed it off. Manager gets pissed, goes to the office and tells him himself, J goes home pissed, but what do you know, J tried to throw dirt on us and we end up in the managers office for a meeting.
The manager says that we abandoned him on a stop he just got, we tell him we both had radios, and he has our phone numbers, at no time did attempt to contact us. Manager then proceeds to lecture us, tells us that we're supposed to be leaders and we shouldn't react that way to him, because that's exactly what he wants. He then tells us that he told him to work his regular shifts next week, but he wants a clean slate, we have to agree that the past is the past and we need to be a team.
So now I have to work with dude tomorrow.
I'll try to be the bigger man, but if he comes in with the same attitude and disrespects me I'm bodying dude, I don't have time for ANYONES foolishness.
