But Llorente was in great form going into the summer and he never even got a sniff. I honestly don't believe that it was as much out of necessity as it was out of preference.
And what world do you live in where no one talks about Xavi? I don't know any list where people talk about the best midfielders in the world and Xavi is excluded. Many people make the argument for Crissy over Messi because they say that Messi has Xavi/Iniesta. Maybe to a novice, but anyone who watches football knows that Xavi is the metronome. And yes, I do believe he should have won the 2010 Ballon d'Or. I was really shocked when he didn't.

Llorente
I would have to look at his stats a bit more in depth. But in 2011, he played 6 times for Spain and didn't score a single goal (not sure if he assisted, or how well he played).
I would still agree with you in a sense of saying Torres should have been 3rd string with Cesc up first and Llorente on the bench.
I know what Torres did in the CL run, fine, I get that, but really that doesn't erase the terrible form of the whole year (even though he worked hard, he simply wasn't finishing).

About that best midfielder in the world debate. Everyone around me speaks of the best player (let alone midfield) and Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and Ronaldo always come up in the same conversation. Xavi is phenomenal, he may not score often, or may not have the flair of Ronaldo, but what he does on the pitch is incredible.

ooooooooh i see, i thought rooney was captain for good

I wouldn't oppose that idea.

Rooney...

-Works extremely hard
-Can gladly play a full 120 if need be
-Put him in any position, he'll do what it takes
-Leads by example
-Wide array of talents (passing, strength, free kicks, headers, and defence)
-relatively young (26; Stevie G is 32) while experienced
-has performed for club and country
-can rally the team around him (watch his last Utd performance against Newcastle)

-Has wonderful hair

:lol

Tons of England possession... San Marino with the bus.

Welbeck with some crazy-*** backheel tap-in... 2-0... this should open-up the floodgates.

Genetically? Cuz both Wrighty and SWP have scored at international level

Oh well, decent enough win -goal difference was all that really mattered tonight.
