It was absolutely telegraphed. But then Rick slit dude’s throat.

Thought maybe they decided to throw a curveball and have Rick NOT do what they set up. I mean, you don’t slit someone’s throat with the intent to later keep them alive. But nope—it was yet another “sike...gotcha!” moment.

Carl did die for this. That’s exactly what he wanted was Rick to show mercy and not kill Negan. Btw I don’t understand Jesus smirk. He can’t possibly agree with Maggie when he wanted every single savior not to die from Morgan but now doesn’t agree with keeping Negan alive
