it's easy to say we're a first round exit if tucker gets hurt. on that note, the lakers are a lebron injury from being the pelicans. the bucks are a giannis injury from being the 2014-2015 hawks. there's only so much we can do with roster/cap limitations, so we're maximizing our best trait: russ/james' ability to drive and finish in an empty lane or kick to a 3 point shooter. i can't knock them for that.

but you're taking out the best player in each of those teams in comparison the rockets 4th, if not 5th, best player

Meanwhile the Sixers are tryna have 4 PF/C and want em all to be snipers from 3 lol

I don't even wanna....

I'm going to tune out Sixers games for the next little while...it's just too frustrating to watch. I'ma need a break from them.

Lol the thread title ...
How is vonhleh still in the league. I can’t believe turner helped my team out many moons ago.... his chick bad tho

There is no small ball team besides GSW (f you wanna call them that) that has won a championship. These are facts.

The truth is you need a couple above average centers and power forwards who do the dirty work, in order to win titles in this league. Always has been.

That "Big 3 blueprint" of the 08-10 Celtics was not the "blueprint." What the C's did by acquiring KG and Ray to pair with Pierce was done simply to counter the league's elite teams at the time - SA, LAL.

Big 3's have been around since the 80s and 90s. HOU with Hakeem, Barkley, Pippen. But the experiment failed.

2000 POR assembled an All Star team (a legit Big 5 with Mighty Mouse, Pippen, Sabonis, SSmith, and Sheed) because it was their only chance to compete against LAL.

I can name countless other Big 3s. Run TMC anyone? Or how bout Bird, McHale, Parish or Magic, Worthy, Kareem. Or Moses, Dr. J, Dawkins/Cheeks. MJ, Pip, Dennis. Duncan, Ginobili, Parker. I can go on and on.

What the Lakers are doing with their roster isn't new. They're built like The Showtime Lakers. Just with more 3 point shooting, cause that's the times we live in today.

The KEY imo is to build on the team's strengths with sights on creating the matchups you need against the top 2-3 elite true championship contenders in the nba. Not copycat a gimmick. Small ball ain't gonna work when the best players on the 3 elite teams are all bigger than 6'8"-6'9" (Giannis, Middleton, Bron, AD, PG, KL)

I am agreeing with you that no team won with small ball, I am not talking about championship contenders. I am just saying that the rest of the league tend to copy the winners. Especially if they win in such a dominant fashion.

I'll be honest, I don't really have the energy to argue your other points. lol

Wasn't Vonleh half way decent last year?

I hear what you're saying. Teams tend to make that mistake. Everybody copies lol

Frankly I think if a team tries copying the winners but yet dont have the kinds of players to replicate the model then it's all for naught.

Teams have to play to their strengths and build around their star player(s) while adding the role players to complement their stars with matchups against the elite in the back of their minds as they build their roster. To me, that's the "blueprint."

One team I haven't thought about was the Raptors, I wouldn't be surprised if more team are taking the Gleague approach now.

this looks like that old NT photoshop thread. some of y'all know what i'm talking about.

I don't think it'll beat the lakers because they have AD, Dwight, and Javale. I've already said we'll have to play some traditional centers during that stretch to combat them. We'll do the same a little with Denver because Jokic can actually score on the block, but we've always just run him off the floor. We just beat the jazz playing small without harden, russ, or capela.

Lebron & Greek are super stars. Their roles/value to the team are vastly different.
PJ is about to 35 doing all the dirty work, coming back from an injury, and MDA is expecting him to guard true bigs. Rockets not actively searching for a center just sounds dumb to me. It may work in the regular season but come playoff time, recipe for disaster.

Hell the Hornets were getting to the rim at will last night.
Cody Zeller only played 13 minutes last night & Rockets got bullied & out-rebounded in the paint by the Hornets.
Against a real team in a 7 game series, it could get real ugly.
But like I said, I get it. Rockets had to do something to optimize Harden & Russ, but it still leaves glaring deficiencies.
