Remains to be seen. We played really well with no Embiid and him as the starting center, wouldn’t have won some of those games without him. We signed him for the playoffs and for Embiid insurance. We’ll see what this move to the bench does for both him and the team.

If he's going to the bench I think they'd rather have him anchor the second unit than not be there. If he's not sharing court time with Embiid I think he still holds enough value for them to keep him.

a buy out is essentially a mutually agreed upon voiding of the contract. al horford signed a 4 year 109 million dollar contract. his 109 is fully guaranteed.
if you were al horford, how much money would you take to cancel the rest of your contract?
if you were the sixers, how much money would you offer al to get him to agree to cancel the rest of his contract?
i hope this hypothetical helps in pointing out how unlikely a buy out is.

Let Al anchor the 2nd unit. Hed still get 20-24 mins a game and can instantly slot in when going against big teams (Bucks) or when Jo is out. Yes he’s overpaid but he has a role here

Also Al contract is closer to 90 mil than 109. The 109 is stipulations on us actually winning a chip lol

Al Horford is 33 and yes he does provide a ton of value to our team in some situations and could be big for us in the playoffs especially against the Bucks and/or Celtics. We were so damn bad defensively with Embiid off the court the previous two years that Horford’s worth having to make sure teams don’t just go on huge runs when he’s off the floor anymore.
