^^^ Yeah, one can appreciate the human element of sports without feeling entitled to know about every petty locker room beef or interpersonal drama.
Exactly.

As with most conversations online, nuance is stripped and it turns into an either 100% or 0% type of situation.

I didn't know saying the stuff Strauss was spewing sounded suckerish would evoke that.

Anyone in here like 30 for 30 docs?
Example being.

Strauss and Markus Thompson had a pod about writing about KD like two years ago. That was a good listen. This is before, Strauss started writing..and Thompson came off KD book.

Exactly.

If you wanna frame it as a preference that's cool, but the original post had a tone of moralizing which is what I'm really criticizing.

If you don't enjoy one type of story, cool but I don't really get the ire at Strauss for writing for an audience that likes good old fashion conflict and drama.

In this instance those interpersonal drama and petty locker room beefs are the reason why this unbeatable cheat code team is no longer together. There’s no way to accurately tell this story without those anecdotes.

Ask yourself this why did Kevin Durant leave the Golden State Warriors?

This really a good point and ultimately why I don't get how people can be mad at the writer.

"Write a story about the Warriors dynasty"

Not sure you accomplish that without getting I to the interpersonal dynamics.

Fair point, but EYE personally don’t care. Teams come together, teams break up. It happens. The exact reasons don’t interest me that much. I don’t think that means I don’t appreciate the “human” element of sports. That’s the point I was making. But I know many people are interested in those stories and Strauss was catering to them.

Nah, man. We as fans must know when players are in relationships so we can determine if it’s affecting their weight or sleeping patterns.

Can’t be expecting elite basketball out of guys with international girlfriends or with chicks that keep them up all night. Can’t have the professional without the interpersonal.

Only jordan led championship team Shaq’s 3peat lakers team is beating is the last one

and that’s because Pippen had a bad back and the wheels were falling off with Rodman at the end

Great listen

The Ringer’s Bill Simmons and Jemele Hill are just a couple of childhood friends striving to be professional basketball players rewatching the 2000 sports drama ‘Love and Basketball’ starring Omar Epps, Sanaa Lathan, and Dennis Haysbert.

I could see a sport like tennis continuing behind closed doors, maybe golf.

But basketball? I dunno.

I doubt they’ll be able to complete the 82 game season and a full playoff schedule without delaying the following season.

either way basketball won’t be the same for 2 years. With fans and a full schedule.

Lol

Hey man however you wanna slice it. At least you had the balls to respond to the post. Not a word from anybody else in here like that news was never even tweeted out. But if it was negative news about “growing pessimism about the season continuing, looking like basketball and/or football will be canceled for the year” my mentions would be blowing up with everyone on this board @‘ing me.

Like is it even a possibility for you that the season could be canceled?
Or most team sports could be delayed or cancelled?

Lol

Probably because people are still skeptical, despite the optimism. Which isn't really surprising given the overwhelmingly grim outlook.

Obviously everyone WANTS sports back.

That was never the discussion.

It was always about safety of the players, staff, media and fans.

That the NBA season is cancelled? Absolutely.

That there be zero sports at all til 2021 like you dudes have wanted me to believe is gonna happen? Absolutely no ******* way

Dude's acting like we're rooting for this to continue
Nah we're just rooting against ignorance. One article and dude has his chest out again, and somehow managed to still play the victim card

Thank you.

Dunce Boy just sees what he wants to see and not what’s actually being said. Nobody in here has given firm time lines for when sports should come back. We’ve been saying they need to proceed with caution, based on advice from public health experts and scientists and not come back just because “people need sports.” If that’s sooner rather than later, great. If not, that’s fine too - for most people.

COVID infection rates are improving because quarantining and social distancing is working.

Of course the NBA will do whatever it takes to finish this season off. Even with no fans in the crowd, there is still money to be made with the playoffs. It's 100% obvious a business such as the NBA will look at every single option to get things running up again because millions of dollars are at stake.

The issue people have with you is how ignorant and dismissive you are about this. Just because the NBA starts up again doesn't mean things go back to normal. A sports league with billions of dollars has every resource at its disposal and can highly control their venues by basically playing in an empty gym. That's not real life though. Sports leagues such as the NBA does not equate to real life. You can't control real life settings. So you saying open up the country, is where people make fun of you. It's literally based on nothing except what you want. Data proves how that 's actually a bad idea. Similarly, to how every summer you are on here posting clips of Fultz or Simmons shooting jumpers and people are like meh, and you throw a fit about how we are all idiots and want these guys to fail. Na man, these clips are not evidence of anything substantial. It's just want you hope for. And no one wants Markelle Fultz to fail. Ironically, you became Fultz's number 1 hater and follow him on every social media platform just to moan about how he's a weirdo.

This is why you get joked on man.

And side note, why would you even want the NBA back. The Sixers are just going to get smacked up in the playoffs anyway.

To be fair to buc em buc em , there’s people with a lot more influence than him saying the same kind of stuff. Today I heard a sound clip from Clay Travis’ radio show during the broadcast of another show. (I would never voluntarily listen to his show).

He’s pushing hard for sports to come back. He said something like, “stay-at-home orders were implemented so hospitals around the country would not be overwhelmed by additional patients. No hospital in any city has been overwhelmed, so we should open the country up again.” That statement has no basis in actual fact - hospitals have been and continue to be slammed with patients - but he said it with total confidence and a lot of people listen to him. :smh:

Those sorts of people only flip the switch when things hit close to home. Similarly, to how a lot of these politicians are initially very anti-gay rights, but someone close to them comes out and all of a sudden they're like nevermind I was wrong. Obviously, that's just one minuscule example. Epitome of selfish.

Obviously, things need to start up sooner than later. People are without work and are struggling to pay their bills. Sports is the last thing on anyone's list though. Especially, since in all likelihood, a lot of arena staff who lost their jobs, won't be present in these empty arenas anyway.
