I always thought Houston became a huge asian market because of Yao.

Wasn't it his debts that led to his dad's murder? Seems straight forward.

this is why i posited the absurd hypothetical about your lender killing your kin for not paying your car note. a car note and a gambling debt are both simply obligations to pay another person money. the only operative difference in the legal field is that one of those obligations is legally enforceable while the other isn't. to think that a person would somehow be held legally responsible for a death of a family member because they didn't pay a debt makes no sense and there's no legal basis for doing so.

I would think he would feel some responsibility on his own conscience if that's the case.

whether he does or doesn't, that's his business. not anyone else's.

And if illegal gambling is illegal I'd think there'd be some type of recourse for that. But if there's no legal ramifications for any of his actions and his employer and fans don't care then why should I give AF?

and i'm asking you, what do you think the ramifications for illegal gambling should be? what I don't think you're getting here is that most laws are either enforced, or not enforced, for financial and political reasons. yes, gambling is illegal. it likely carries a small punishment. but who wants to try and run up gambling charges on MJ 20 years after the fact and for what purpose?

I'm pretty sure Mike was gambling on his games. I doubt he ever threw a game. That goes against his entire hyper-competitive personality. I don't think he ever participated in organized gambling on games either, but definitely with his friends and acquaintances. I can see it now, March 23, 1992:
"Bet you I drop 40 on the Nuggets tomorrow"
"Are you serious? I could drop 40 on the Nuggets"
"Your fat *** cant even drop 40 pounds talmbout you'd drop 40 points"
"Man **** you.....make it 50 and you're on"

Is there concrete proof that Jordans gambling debts, caused his father death or is this just another barbershop story y'all running with as "Dell from the shop said it, so it must be true". Cause if y'all arguing over hypotheticals, then you guys are nuts.

Players of Jordan’s caliber who can really flip the switch can absolutely throw games while making it seem not that obvious

Theoretically, yes. But it just isn’t practical. Think about what and how much it would take just to get a sit down to make the proposal. Now think about how much would have to be wagered in order to make it worth their while. There’s no way that amount of action goes unnoticed.

The idea that Jordan bet on games is ludicrous to me. As is the idea that gambling debts got his father killed.

I already said if the death was investigated and found to be linked to illegal activity there would seemingly be consequences for said illegal activity. That doesn't jive with taking out a car loan.

And it's not about it being 20 years after the fact. We're talking about it now because of the documentary. In real time it should've been dealt with.

Cali opening up little by little,

NBA resuming in LA watch

I appreciate your optimism, but what makes you think that’s a better option than Disneyworld or elsewhere in Florida, which is reopening even faster?

Yeah, for the reasons you mention, I think if Jordan was betting on NBA games it was along the lines of the Roenick story that was posted in here earlier. Betting on himself against a buddy/acquaintance. That story was totally consistent with what else we know for sure about Mike.

Tbh I'm bull****ting :lol :lol if the NBA comes back the Orlando proposal seems to make the most sense. The fact that the NBA has had something similar in Vegas w/the G League showcase makes that appealing too.

I do think LA can make it work though. Two NBA facilities, most of the league and their families are in Los Angeles, making quarantining a bit easier, idk.

My brother’s godfather was a bookie back in the 80’s and 90’s. From what I’ve heard, MJ was betting big on games he played in (especially playoffs/finals) and was offering to split the winnings with the opponents. Why do you think nobody bothered to stop MJ on that play where the suns were up 4 with 40 seconds left? There’s a reason he went 6-0 in the finals. Would you rather beat MJ or get a couple mil in your wallet? Im taking the $$$ back then.

I read this then saw who posted it

"Wassup Bryce Harper my man." ~

Who are these other 2 dudes man.

"Who you got CJ or Brad.?" ~

Some NC dudes. One of em played for ECU. He talks to Rodney Purvis next. They bring up the time Kemba Walker made his name on the AAU circuit by shutting Brandon Jennings down.

They were saying on the radio that no one filed a missing persons report on MJ's dad for 21 days. And part of that 21 days was his 57th birthday. That's pretty wild.

Unless he was estranged from the family or something.
