To kind of piggyback off of this, I don’t think it’s realistic to expect laws/decision making to change that quickly (1-2 months) given how the government works in general which is only made worse by our current administration/senate.

For example - look how difficult and politically motivated it is to get these stimulus and relief bills passed. We have record unemployment yet these Republican goons are proposing relief bills with going billions towards DoD-related items and little to nothing for those who are struggling to make ends meet.

Hopefully atrocities such as this are highlighted over the coming months causing folks to vote and make the right decisions come this November.
If things don't happen immediately, dudes in here complain. LeBron's voting rights initiative is HUGE, and a FAR BIGGER deal than anything else that has been done, but it's not something that is going to be immediate. Anything similar to that is not going to be immediate either given everything you just said.

Dude says the sound clips are useless, but are they really? Were the sound clips also useless when players were on megaphones speaking at protests? Or nah, that's different because the location is different? Attention leads to change. Expecting change to happen overnight though is pretty stupid, IMO.

There were tangible laws and gains being made though in the immediate aftermath of protests in several states though. That direct action for maybe the first time since the Civil rights era was leading to a rapid response.

Not saying Bron's voting initiative isn't a worthy cause because it is, he didn't need the bubble nor NBA platform to do that though. He stumped for Hillary back in 2016 and she lost Ohio.

As I said before, until the league and it's sponsors but their money where their mouth is and take the initiatives directly to capital hill and demand reform, these lip service and symbolic guestures will remain just that.

This sentence hits the nail on the head, but do you think there is any chance of the league and it's sponsors doing that if games aren't happening? I certainly don't see it. Believing that seems like a fools errand.

Hmmm why wouldn't they if they believe so much in the cause as they claim to be? Would the league or their sponsors have all of a sudden gone belly up if the season was canceled for legitimate reasons (it middle of a pandemic in a Hotspot). It could change absolutely, but the response thus far after the whole well "the bubble will give them an elevated platform" seems to be a farce. The restart begins on tomorrow, they're on the clock.

What a convenience for the NBA and it's owners to hide behind it's players...so that they can march ****** out to be the face of their corporate activism and have the conversation just keep falling in their laps.

That's why we're in here talking about Lebron's voter initiative and not James Dolan's voter initiative.

And I acknowledged early on that the players themselves could only do so much. Their voices, I guess could be ones to keep some conversations going, then apparently kneeling at some point during Thursday's games, and the league sanctioned messages on the jerseys etc. in theory are good gestures. But their main objective after agreeing to come to this knowing by their own players' words that this is a distraction was to light and keep a fire under the league's *** to put their money where their mouth is.

But it's looking like as of right now their is somewhat of a disconnect, hell the players don't even know what they can do now to facilitate that.

I mean the headline is misleading to say the least reading the substance.

What is something that YOU believe is impactful and/or "sufficient" for the players themselves to do? To me, it seems like there are unrealistic expectations that NBA players should be able to solve decades of systemic social injustice within a 2 month span (using George Floyd's murder as tipping point) during a pandemic.

The validity and veracity to which those will be received by the masses who are tuned in to watch sports again is TBD.
