DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK

We lost a half day, came back for a day, and lost like 2 days

In brief:

We lost access to our server due to the negligence of our now former hosting company. (Other customers addressed this here, if you want details: https://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1932930 )

We temporarily regained partial access, but upon losing it again we had no choice but to rent another server elsewhere and restore from the most recent successful backup, which was completed prior to the initial outage.

Unfortunately, two days of posts were lost as a result, but we had to make the decision to cut our losses to avoid any further downtime.

I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.

Not a big deal, good to return on a short-term basis originally as a good grace appreciate that

Our systems admin was able to get us back online with an IPv6 address, but we only had partial access because some services like transactional email require IPv4 to work.

Ideally, they’d have been able to perform a successful backup and THEN we would’ve restored from that backup during the overnight, off peak hours to minimize the disruption. Unfortunately, we lost access again, and support was just wasting our time.

All we could do at that point was rent a server and throw a maintenance screen up while transferring the most recent backup image we had on hand.

We waited longer than I would’ve liked in hopes of recovering the data today, but once we had the January 6th backup running on the rental server it was essentially our choice to stay offline.

It’s not the outcome everyone would’ve preferred, but eventually we had to pull the cord, cut our losses, and get back online.

Makes sense, to even rent a server was helpful to say, “hey we’re working”. All g glad it’s back up, I realized how much I visit this site so I think it’s a good thing for all of us users and the site itself :lol

Were the former hosts stateside? If so which region? Also are you renting a server stateside or overseas?

Asking purely as a financial play
