I'm on my phone so I can't be sure, but if my math is correct the Magic are taking back more salary in this deal (about $4M).
That would put them around $67M and the luxury tax is supposed to be around $68M.
So, if they still want to remain under the luxury tax, it looks like they won't be re-signing Hedo or their first round pick because the Magic would haveto pay a dollar for dollar tax on nearly their entire contract.
Even if they get Hedo at a relatively good price, say $8M, it'll cost the Magic $16M.
Maybe they'll go a slightly cheaper and get a player or two to take half their MLE to shore up the bench.
Unless my math is wrong or the Magic decide to pay through the nose, it looks like they will be letting go of two starters (Lee, Hedo) for one (Carter).
With respect to the Finals alone, I get the trade because Carter would have made Kobe work harder on both ends of the floor. I just don't see whythey're sure that overpaying Carter is better than over paying Hedo and keeping Lee.
