It wont take you that long to root it but it just takes a long time finding the right ROM.

for those that are rooted or just rooted, i would recommend WiMax notifier (it uses the "4g light for your mms/text messages)

It predicts what words you are going to use next, and has been working for me flawlessly. I know, I sound like the commercial, but give it a try.
