How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking of getting a note 2 but don't trust anyone on craigslist, buying new though is really pricey so i'm at a crossroads here :lol

I got a brand new one for $530 but I live in the Silicon Valley so it's rare to get a really good deal since everyone knows their stuff.

I was pretty paranoid buying on CL because people have been reporting their phones lost after or stop paying for the EIP

but the guy I bought it from bought it full price from tmobile and cancelled his value plan within 7 days due to crappy service in his area

I had him meet up at the T-Mobile store to check the IMEI and asked the T-Mobile rep if there was an account linked to it and if it was 100 % cancelled etc

So i'm not worried about my Note 2 getting blacklisted

Rooting is pretty essential if you're getting a bloated phone from a provider. There's no way I would be happy with an S3 if I didn't take off all the trash that was preloaded. It's not even about the bloatware itself. It's about having the freedom and choice to choose what goes on with your phone.

I realize a lot of the mods and other tweaks are overkill. But I need to root. I want full control of my phone, even if I'm not going to change anything on it.

As for Samsung and Android -- I can see what Samsung is going for, but I just feel like they're digging their own grave.

Le'ts put it this way: there are things that Apple does really, really well, and there are things that Google does really, really well. However, I am struggling to think of anything that Samsung does really, really well. The only piece of software I use is the AllShare stuff, which I have to give them credit for. But outside of that, it sounds like a bunch of mediocre features that won't be enough to carry the device.

But you are just one person, the 16-28 age range wont give 2 ships about allshare, but will use EVERYTHING else that samsung promotes......and thats whats making them soo successful. There is NO other reason they are the leading Android phone provider out there right now. this should already be known from the convo`s about the plastic samsung vs the aluminum HTC.

I get what you are saying......but you are certainly the minority as far as thinking the features are mediocre.....which they very well may be, but what other phone has those type of features and is advertised the say samsung advertises it?
you're right. at this point, it's all about marketing and hype. and it's always been that way.

to capture the market fully, Samsung needs to shed the image of android being buggy and scattered. so it makes sense for them to start making things proprietary.

I'm just disappointed whenever Samsung starts resembling apple. I came to android simply because it was not apple. I want a different philosophy and approach. but you're right -- I'm in the minority.

Got it, that's a good call getting it checked out at the store. Thanks.

THAT doesnt even make sense.........There is a catch somewhere in that price because no way in hell they go from $50 for 500 mb to $70 for unlimited and no throttled speeds........When you find out what it is, im SURE bricks will be **** (lol)

I work for T-Mobile. I can assure, the plan is going to Unlimited calling, texting, and then if you want unlimited data the plan will come out to $70 a month, 4G WITHOUT throttling.

You will probably hear all about this in less than a week.

Just dropped today, good app, and FAST. I have evernote, and it has crazy options but not as fast as Keep. I already threw my grocery list and other misc. things on it. This app has potential, hopefully Google adds a reminder option so I can put my task on it. I still havent found a good task app yet :{

DL'ed it right away. Works like a charm. I've been in need of a smooth app that lets me make random post its on the cloud. :Nthat

You should try out Any.Do, Boost. Best to-do list app I've ever used. :smokin

This is what makes Samsung so lame IMO. They clown Apple then begin to do the exact same thing. Don't claim you're different and better then within a year go against your philosophy. You obviously didn't need to fall in line. But did.

^ agreed. Google Keep illustrates exactly what google does so well and what Samsung has little to no hope of doing on their own. That's why I'm so skeptical. Samsung isn't just going up against Apple. They want to take on Google as well? Good luck... Both those companies have well-established software identities that large portions of the population love. Samsung does not.

Maybe I'm overblowing this whole thing. Maybe Samsung isn't really trying to leave Android completely and maybe Android isn't good enough on its own to sell >50% of cell phones. At the end of the day, if we end up with more options, I can't complain.

google keep is so basic. exactly what i needed. they finally got it right. no need for fancy bells and whistles, just cut and dry note taking.

Been wanting an app like this since i got my gnex. For some reason i didn't like evernote much but it's what i used just because those random 3rd party note apps were pretty crappy. Keep is so simple, having that home screen widget and random notes i have to remind myself stuff for is so easy with voice.

Just got a Nexus 4.

Wondering if any of you guys can help me out, its been well noted that the vibration/volume is not the best on the N4. I keep my phone on vibrate 80% of the time, but the N4 vibration is weak as hell. After some searching I found a app "contact vibrate" that lets you create your own vibrations works pretty well. My only issue now, is when the phone is locked and I get a msg/notification the vibration goes back to the N4 defaults. Anyone know how to change this without a custom ROM/kernel?

I'm gonna be "that guy" and tell you to flash a custom ROM/kernel.

-------

1) Use the N4 Toolkit to root, unlock bootloader, etc.

2) Flash AOKP

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146885

3) Flash GApps

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857

4) Flash Franco's Kernel

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002782

-------

AOKP has a built-in feature that allows you to control the vibration pattern. Not so sure about controlling the "strength" of vibration though.

on AOKP you can control your vibration strength and customize it.

There's really no need to flash a ROM on da N4 but if you want to customize your vibration, you have to root it and ROM it. :\

Thanks guys, really didn't want to go that route(new to android and wanted to keep it as stock as possible) but don't know how much longer I can deal with this weak vibration :{.
