I know exactly what you mean, but my frenchies are borderline beaters (the picture makes them look so much better), so instead of trying to clean, repaint certain areas, and using shoe goo for the sole separation I'm better off buying another pair. That's easier said than done though because they are hard to find in good condition in my size.^^^
You will NOT get the top quality leather that they originally put on them. Give the upper a good wipe down and fix the yellowing on the toebox - they'll give you many more years of service.
