WELCOME TO THE MARVEL MULTIVERSE -*RIP STAN LEE & Boseman* - Agatha All Along new ep every Wednesday

Decided to finally to go to the begining of phase 1, and watch my way through all of the movies, as I've only watched them when they came out in theatres. Got through Captain America yesterday, and Captain Marvel just a little while ago.

The wife & I watched WandaVision. she hasn't seen much of any Marvel movie other than Ant-Man, she loves Paul Rudd, but who doesn't?!? Hahaha....anyways, she said she's undecided about WV so far, but I have a feeling she will get into it more. I'm digging it so far, and love the throwback feel for these first 3 episodes... Excited for the turn, and to see what's next for Marvel universe.

I gave my wife the recap of Captain America, trying to give her a rundown of each movie to see if she will want to watch them. If not, it's still good for me to put it all back together, and give her a little perspective on how good most of these movies are.

I mean you gotta look at it from Thor’s perspective

ragnarok happens, in which he loses his father and his home and the sister he had zero clue about

while escaping the planet, he gets attacked by thanos and loses Handel and his brother plus other people

and then he blames himself for not killing thanos and causing half the galaxy to go poof

gotta assume he’ll be back in shape.. but dude had legit reasons to be depressed

Thor is my current favorite MCU character. Can’t wait for how we see his universe now intertwined with Guardians.

Always liked AoU more than A1 *shrugs*
Agreed. A1 sure was game changing at the time and set forth future MCU movies but idk if it’s lack of character depth or the effects and battle scenes compared to others but I’d rank A1 pretty low compared to the other Avenger movies that have come after.

This is not surprising when you consider how society becomes more cynical with the more they know.

Saw similar in the comic book community with the rise of anti-heroes in the 90s to the point ppl want regular heroes to kill and sort of justify it with how soldiers and law enforcement have a license to kill.

Tv/movie wise I saw the trajectory with 24. Jack was going after terrorists and ppl were way more willing and encouraging when he killed and tortured terrorists to save Americans. Then you got Dexter who was a psychopath serial killer that only killed evil ppl. He was the protagonist and everybody rooted for him to keep killing and getting away with his crimes. That opened the door to Hannibal who just kills and eats ppl, a guy like Frank Underwood, and Walter White.

When I think of “villains” that I kind of see their point of view, I always go to Killmonger first, then Thanos, and to a lesser degree but still Ultron. In theory all of their views make sense, but some more destructive and gone about in the wrong way I’d say. I love that most about them in the MCU. Hell, even Zemo has an angle. “You killed my entire, innocent family during the Sokovia thing, and with ZERO repercussions. I know I technically can’t physically fight you, but I can manipulate you to destroy each other.”

"I want to bring balance to the universe."

'That's great! How do you plan on doing so?"

"Snapping half of all living things into non-existence"

"oh."
Haha

BUT

his reasoning was that he saw his people suffer and die. The people that were snapped felt no pain at all. He saved them from the, ahem, “inevitable”

Zemo was correct. AOA was literally all ironmans fault. He didn’t save anyone, he just stopped the bleeding of the cut he inflected. Then when it was over he was looked at as a savior. You think he explained to the public he did it all? :lol

good points, got me thinking though that since Jack and Dexter and Walter White were the protagonists of their shows and being depicted as sympathetic characters shown from their point of view so it would make natural sense to root for these guys to demolish anyone in their way  same as guys like Wolverine, Punisher, etc. Just from their depictions as "bad good guys".

the obvious villain to hate is generic "I hate you for whatever reason"/"I want to destroy the world for my own gain"/"I want the world to suffer because I'm a jerk" etc

while on the other hand you got someone who's in between those tropes like Thanos, the mad/misguided Titan lol. To a lesser extent Ultron because "he" was more of a KILL ALL HUMANS BECAUSE THEY SUCK because they're destroying the planet thing. Obvious antagonists of the story, but with "good" intentions lol.

I guess what I'm thinking and how it relates to the article and your post, is that there's levels to villains/antagonists so sympathizing with someone like Thanos vs sympathizing with someone like Ego or Loki who were motivated by selfishness or revenge. So while siding with the antihero/good intentions antagonist is one thing, siding with a straight up evil being is another

as an aside it took me a few minutes to think of MCU villains who fit into the "pure evil" category, credit to the MCU/Marvel for having multi-faceted villains/antagonists. Loki for revenge, Ego for greed/personal gain, Yellowjacket for greed, Dormammu for wanting to take over reality?
