The tone is a bit more serious than Last Jedi. Nothing too graphic/scary but there are a few tense moments and people do get killed in it.

I thought that too but if he didn't receive outside help he wouldn't have been alive to continue the challenge. He was going to die and then he got revived by outside interference. Just the fact that he got revived by his mother voids his challenge cuz I thought the whole point was no outside interference for the ritual.

In order words I'm saying it's to the death or yield and tchalla was for all intents and purposes dead until someone from outside the fight revived him. You can say that's interference or cheating.

well I don't know the entire rules but he explicitly said himself upon returning that he didn't yield so the fight could continue.

Movie was great, Marvel just can't lose.

Acting was superb and the message is the best yet, definitely could be argued as Marvels most important yet.

Really no more praise could be said that hasn't been mentioned.

But I got to say, it's hard for it to crack the top 5 of MCU. IM1, A1, CW, WS, GotG, etc... i'm still seeing it a handful times so i'll make a judgement then.

End fight was a disappointment between Panthers, being in a dark place, in front of a green screen and when the masks comes off, at time it almost looks like floating heads at times.

Battle up top in the end, both rituals and chase scenes > the end final fight and it didn't help that they showed plenty of this in the trailers/previews.

MBJs villain was a bit of a roller coaster, loved everything about it and his screen time was great, I just didn't like it:

... that after taking the throne, he became too much of a full blown villain that just wants to dominate the world, i just wish he stayed

but then it was back to downright loving the character again in the end and why he'd rather die

to me the personality change almost felt like another possessed him for a sec then righ tback down to earth, felt like they could have handled that better, like maybe being more evil turned him more of a maniac after the heart shaped herb entered his body or something

but hey that is a compliment to MBJ as I was practically siding with him until he went a bit too far


and speaking of spoilers, I really just love all the surprises this film provided and I really wouldn't have enjoyed it had I known what was going to happen and I am not sure why others would want to ruin that to others but I digress

great film, seeing it a few more times and then onto IW
 
Amazing movie. So much to digest.

I'm glad they didn't feature the Soul Stone. BP was able to expand the Marvel universe without having to add to the Infinity War build up. Will the Soul Stone show up in Wakanda later on? We'll just have to wait and see.

I saw some gripes about Killmonger's Oakland demeanor. I liked it. It had more impact because he's an outsider yet he was still able to speak Wakandan.

Killmonger's story was so rich and I think it was because Coogler was hired to direct after Chadwick was cast as BP. Once they announced Coogler as the director I knew he was gonna throw MBJ in there somehow. And because he's the star of his other films, he def gave a lot of shine to the character since MBJ couldn't be BP. It worked out perfectly IMO.

Also, shoutout to the fight choreographer for having T'challa use Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to beat his challenger.

It's not just his oakland demeanor that's the gripe. He was kind of just walking in there nonchantly, like he had never truly been in the Army, like he never had discipline. Then just rolls in their and is like "yo what's up, i want to be the king of this place here" Like come on, he had been in the military had high honors was on a ghost recon team., not saying the hood ever left him, but his demeanor would not have been the same after all that.
In the museum, i was like... oh.. wouldn't have expected that... but i was like ok.....but when he got in the throne room and onward, I was just like wait... really?
Other than that, don't get me wrong, his message and delivery of that message was awesome.
again, being a black American, yes ofcourse I agreed with what he was saying, he made me want to join the killmonger camp.
(I also understand why Wakanda never wanted to get involved as well)

I think Killmonger was a personal reference to Coogler. Coogler went to one of the finest schools for film, directed/ wrote critically acclaimed movies, and he STILL talks like a dude from the streets of Oakland in professional settings.
 
I didn't say Id expect mbj to have an African accent and speak wakandan. I'm saying it seemed a bit forced to have him be so Cali, with it. Especially with a a training and ambition such as his. I'm sure it was like that to reach a bit more of this younger generation. And I can see it helping getting the message across to them the ones who need it.

Got off work in time to catch the last viewing at my local theater

Can't say anything else but greatness, can't wait to watch it again this weekend
 
Just got home. :wow: :pimp:

I LOVE THIS MOVIE! Not a single weak performance. I think the MCU has been falling into a trap of making whimsical and light movies packed with jokes to appeal to the masses, but this one is special. BP is in my top 3. It's a must see. Can't wait to cop the steelbook. :pimp: The action in this movie all had intent and emotion. The finale got me hype multiple times over. I think they did a better job of passing mantles and dealing with royalty than the Thor movies. I love T'Challa's journey to being a better king. It's a constant theme throughout. I never was a big fan of Killmonger in the comics, but I feel for MBJ. I already planned on seeing it again with more friends, but now I can't eem wait. That 7.1 sound in the theater was on point too. Other than the opening mission, the music was really distinct. You can tell they put a lot of effort into it. I just wish we had an iconic theme to associate BP with. Wasn't expecting to love Lupita and Danai so much either.

I love that finale. When Okoye flipped on Killmonger to help T'Challa. :wow: Then the Dora came running into the battlefield. :wow: When they were hemmed up and you could hear M'Baku's clan chant out in the background!! Son. I wanted to stand up in the theater. :lol: :pimp:

They still managed to sneak in a little bit of cheese like that cringeworthy mixtape "I'll give you my SoundCloud link" quip, but it's barely in there.
 
The movie was dope. I did feel like it kinda dragged for a bit though. I’d probably rank it amongst top 10 MCU films but definitely not ahead of WS, CW, A1, IM1, and GOTG 1. I’m curious to know what the weekend box office numbers will look like though. I’ll be catching it again on Monday and possibly once more with MoviePass.

As far as the movie. I agree about the Panther v Panther fight scenes being a little to heavy on the CGI, and looking off but everything else about this film is A1. Top Marvel movie for me, probably because Im black though. Everything was a feast for the eyes. The women got almost as much development as Tchalla honestly, and played super important roles in fleshing out the story, and forwarding the plot. Killmonger was one of those villains that was just a few bad decisions off from being a hero in his own right. I found myself agreeing with his motive, but not liking his methods.

The quality of the cast, even down to the last cameo ( For fans of Moonlight and The Chi) were all welcome additions.
I find myself wanting to skip a lot of scenes in most of these movies, but i can't see myself doing this with this film.

Top scores abound, the only thing thats topping this film possibly to me is CW, which ive seen twice in the past couple of days leading up to this, and HATED the motive of Zemo.

Exactly how I left feeling. I’m not the biggest Marvel fan but this is def one of my all time favorite superhero movies.
 
Phenomenal movie.

Biggest gripes were regarding CG Killmonger and T’Challa fight in the Panther and Leopard Habits and Erik’s demeanor once he got to Wakanda.

I thought he went a little overboard with the Charisma for a teenage Naval Academy/MIT wiz kid that also happens to be one of the deadliest black ops agents in America. Then I had to remember this is also an orphan from Oakland that is also a master at espionage so he’s basically been suppressing who he truly is all these years.

You have to remember at his core he’s an extremist who’s willing to do anything to make sure his goal is complete and with that comes a facade. So I think I’ve been able to get over that now. Whoever said he’s a representation of Coogler as well, that made me understand it more as well.

He had some serious quotes in the movie and really stole the show. Coogler managed to take a C list Villain and turn him into a likeavle bad a** with a tragic backstory. Really wish we got more screen time with him.

Klaw, Shuri and Okoye were all great as well; lots of scene stealers in this movie. You can tell that Andy Serkis got to have a lot of fun with this movie and that made me really happy for him as he’s been doing Mo-Cap work for years.

All in all really good movie, probably my favorite solo film outside of TWS.

Another cool part was how they took little tropes from different Marvel films, specifically Cap movies. They did the flashback revisit with additions to the scene each time they showed it like Civil War and some of the fight choreography with blades was spot on taken from the bridge scene with Bucky and Cap from TWS.
 
Can someone shed some light on the vibranium part? Like, there's vibranium everywhere including Vibranium flowers?

I'm assuming the last Infinity Stone is probably be in said meteor too?
 
Saw it last night. Great movie!
Not sure if it's in my top five yet. I gotta see it a couple times, but it's a must see.
Not a weak link in the movie. I thought everyone's performance was great. Killmonger was an amazing villain. What he wanted to accomplish in the movie felt very real. The action scenes and choreography was on point. Shuri KILLED IT. I forgot there names, but I love how they made it seem like the mountain tribe would be the ones to betray T'Challa, but ended up helping save him and Wakanda.
I only have a couple "gripes" and they're more personal than flaws I saw in the movie. The first half of the movie didn't grip me like the second half did. The fight scene in the casino was great but the over all premise for lack of a better word, was weird to me. Like Nakia needed a disguise to blend in and was still made, but T'Challa didn't need any kind of disguise? Especially after what happened in civil war I thought at least one other person other than Ross would have recognized him.:lol: . The "what are those" and mix tape lines were cringe worthy to me.
