Money is easy and doesn't show much thought.

Dinner or something that's one time is nice, but obviously doesn't last.

Get him something he would use constantly or that he'd be able to keep for awhile and remember it. Buy him a nice starter watch that he could keep for awhile. Maybe a personalized wooden desk valet, my brother got me one for being in his wedding party and I really love it.
