What if McGrady stayed in Orlando and played alongside Dwight Howard instead of Yao? Do you he would have gotten out of the first round? or is McGrady destinedto never pass the first round?

They got Dwight cause they traded T Mac and sucked for a while. T Mac= No Dwight

Didn't T-mac leave the same summer that Dwight was about to get drafted? Orlando got that number 1 pick because McGrady and the Magic sucked that season.that was the season that T-mac said he didnt even try.

No he didn't get traded before the draft. The draft was in june and he got traded that summer. He thought dwight howard would have taken a while to developand didn't want to wait, he wanted to win now. If I remember correctly he was mad that they took him over okafor

Interesting... I would what would have happened if McGrady played alongside a healthy Grant Hill

no, TMAC was playing on that Magic team that went 21-61, after the season ended he demanded a trade which Orlando and eventually he ended in a Rockets uni.

but to think of the lineup with TMAC

PG-Nelson
SG-McGrady
SF-Turkoglu
PF-Lewis
C-Howard

thats 4 players 6'10 or taller!

Wrong. They wouldn't have Rashard Lewis.

Im pretty sure tmac said he wanted to leave if orlando would have kept the #1 pick. if they would have traded the pic he would have stayed, meaning no D12

bonafide what are u talking about? T-mac was mad they took dwight over okafor? if im not correct plz tell me, okafor went first pick to bobcats with theirfirst year of being a team.

if T-mac stayed there would be no dwight

I brought this up in the tmac as moss thread. I was wondering myself if dho would be as good as he is now with tmac on the team

yall have terrible memories. Orlando had the first pick that year. Yes,they could have had Tmac and Howard.

We have some winners!

I think we should bring him back and find out.

Shard for T-Mac and some cherries on top to make it happen.

The 2004 draft was held on June 24.McGrady was traded on June 30.To wonder if McGrady would have stayed means that he would have not requested a trade after the '04 season or opted out of his contract after the '05 season. The Magic's salaries going into the '03-04 season (a year before they drafted Dwight):Orlando Magic Total: $50,209,704 Grant Hill ................. $13,279,750 (contract expired after '06-07) Tracy McGrady .............. $13,279,750 (contract opt out after '04-05) Juwan Howard ............... $4,917,000 (contract expires after '07-08) Drew Gooden ................ $3,004,560 (contract expired after '05-06) -- traded away along with Hunter and Varejao (imagine that!) for Battie Pat Garrity ................ $2,643,750 (contract expires after '07-08) Andrew DeClercq ............ $2,500,000 (contract expired after '04-05) Gordan Giricek ............. $1,540,000 (contract expired after '04-05) Tyronn Lue ................. $1,500,000 (contract expired after '03-04) Steven Hunter .............. $1,431,600 (contract expired after '04-05) -- see Gooden Reece Gaines ............... $1,353,120 (contract expired after '05-06) Rod Strickland ............. $887,317 [minimum, counts $571,100] Shammond Williams .......... $751,179 [minimum, counts $688,679] Robert Archibald ........... $563,679 [minimum] Keith Bogans ............... $366,931 [minimum] Zaza Pachulia .............. $366,931 [minimum]Had they not traded away McGrady the Magic's known salaries entering the '04-05 season would have been:Orlando Magic Total: $54,846,172 Grant Hill ................. $14,487,000 Tracy McGrady .............. $14,487,000 Juwan Howard ............... $5,408,700 Tony Battie ................ $4,800,000 Dwight Howard .............. $4,179,720 Pat Garrity ................ $2,937,500 Andrew DeClercq ............ $2,500,000 DeShawn Stevenson .......... $2,500,000 Jameer Nelson .............. $1,106,160 Stacey Augmon .............. $1,100,000 Michael Bradley ............ $720,046 [minimum] Brandon Hunter ............. $620,046 [minimum] Mario Kasun ................ $385,277 [minimum]
Add a few more minimum type contracts (or Sean May/Danny Granger instead of leaving Fran Vasquez in Europe) to add a couple more millions dollars to thattotal.

Entering the '05-06 season (even though J. Howard, instead of Doug Christie, could have been released using the amnesty clause, his contract would stillhave counted against the cap):

Code:
Orlando Magic Total: $66,303,868Grant Hill ................... $15,694,250Tracy McGrady ................ $15,694,250Juwan Howard ................. $5,900,400Hedo Turkoglu ................ $5,393,300Tony Battie .................. $5,200,000Dwight Howard ................ $4,493,160Pat Garrity .................. $3,231,250Keyon Dooling ................ $3,100,000DeShawn Stevenson ............ $2,750,000Jameer Nelson ................ $1,189,200Stacey Augmon ................ $1,138,500 [minimum, 2 year contracts]Bo Outlaw .................... $1,138,500 [minimum, counts $719,373]Terence Morris ............... $835,810 [minimum, counts $719,373]Mario Kasun .................. $682,050Travis Diener ................ $398,762 [minimum]
Entering the '06-07 season:
Code:
Orlando Magic Total: $71,888,289 Grant Hill .................. $16,901,500 Tracy McGrady ............... $16,901,500 Juwan Howard ................ $6,392,100 Hedo Turkoglu ............... $5,883,600 Tony Battie ................. $5,746,000 Dwight Howard ............... $4,806,720 Pat Garrity ................. $3,525,000 Keyon Dooling ............... $3,348,000 Keith Bogans ................ $2,510,000 J.J. Redick ................. $1,860,720 Jameer Nelson ............... $1,272,120 Bo Outlaw ................... $1,178,348 [minimum, counts $744,551] Mario Kasun ................. $919,551 [released 7/1/06] Travis Diener ............... $664,209 [minimum] James Augustine ............. $412,718 [minimum]
Taking away Hill, Outlaw, Diener, and Augustine's expiring deals would leave them with a cap number of $52,245,760. The salary cap is $55,630,000. Even though McGrady would also have been a free agent after this season (I doubt that McGrady would have signed an extension in '04 the way did forHouston), he'd still count against their cap at a rate of $20+M so they'd have absolutely no cap space to sign Lewis scratching this year.

I'm looking at that roster (is Juwan even there? would they have gone after Turkoglu? would they have traded Gooden, Hunter, and Varejao?) and wonder ifthey would have finished better than 8th (swept by Detroit) last year so that they could have faced Toronto, Miami, or Cleveland. I would think that he'dhave had a better chance. Then again, I thought he would have taken game 7 at home last year.

^^ Nice breakdown of stats. Dwight is a monster this year, it just would have been crazy to see him and T-Mac running down the floor together. Howarddominating the post, and T-Mac hittin them jumpers.
