What was your starting salary after college?

How did you guys go about negotiating your salary for your first job?
sorry for the double post, but pretty tough for your first job since you have no previous job or experience to back it up. I would have tried to but I was affraid I would have got rejected so I didnt bother. Just work your first job 1-2 years and dip, it willnot only be easier to find a new job but you can get what you want/deserve.

first job after getting business degree was marketing specialist position at Chicago Transit Authority. I made $35,200. I stayed home for 10 months and bought a townhouse. I lived pretty well all things considered. I got a promotion the next year to marketing coordinator and made $47,500.

Work hard, party hard and save your money (as much as you can without sacrificing your youth)

I have experience though. Like even during my first co-op term I had to go through negotiations and I just took the first thing figure offered me, my mom said I could of gotten more out of them, but like you said I was afraid they'd pass

I went straight thru and graduated with my masters at age 23... Started off with a 40k salary but bumped it up to 50 with a part time....

My major is social work tho so I prolly will go back to school eventually...

Good luck with ur job search Phi use the bond and see if u can find some bruhs that know about jobs. My Klub got me my first job outta grad school an I'm forever grateful

Yeah I've definitely been putting the Bond to good use. Everything from referrals to letters of rec to internships have helped me out. I'm proud of myself with this probation officer position I'm up for because it'd be one that I've gotten by myself and my own merits. Spoke to the HR rep today. She said the company is currently drafting up an offer letter for me. Trying not to get too excited until I actually get it, but that was certainly good news to hear. :pimp:

60K as a project Manager - I am just getting 1-2 years of experience and jumping ship! :D

I am still in college...doing summer sales and am a manager now. Yea i'm the annoying guy who knocks on your door I've sold security systems, pest control, and am doing dish network this summer. Absolutely a hard job and I work my balls off and am rejected a ton but making at least 20-30 thousand in 4 months can't be beat. Reading all these salaries makes me want to drop out and do it full time.

Went straight to sales at ATT,

About 40k part time...

I'd rather struggle for a couple years than go home...

Working on masters in finance now and when I finish, I'm hoping to be at 60k..

1 month after graduation BA in Computer Information Systems....24k

quit job

3 months after graduation...28k

quit job

5 months after graduation....64k

Just takes time I got a job and kept looking, then got another job and kept looking until i got the salary I was looking for. Just never lose hope and absolutely never settle.

Im opposite id rather live at home for a year or two than struggle. Making car payments on top of student loans is a pain in the a** but im slowly saving once I hit my plateo ill be out finding a new job going to shoot for aove 50k so I can live somewhat comfortable when the time comes. Btw I work in Detroit so making 40k here equates to 55k in a larger city, looking at moving Cali by summer friend is helping me land a gig within his company where id make 60k..

Just curious- How did you explain to your hiring manager why you were looking for three jobs in 4 months. Also, did you have any employment gaps?
