This might sound dumb but where did the Galaxy concept come from on the upcoming Nike products? Like all the other concepts such as Black History Month, Christmas and others at least have a meaning behind them. Does Galaxy have a meaning or is it just a new design concept?

The All-Star Game this year is in Orlando, which is where the Kennedy Space Center is located. My guess is they got the inspiration from that.

/Ok lets lock it up boys.

Ummm.... It's just a reference to all the stars forming a galaxy. Thought that was obvious.

"Star" is the word they use to describe exceptional people in their field. If for some reason they called them "trees" instead of "stars" it would be call the "all-tree" game, and people would refer to the shoes for that game as the "all-trees". After years of calling them the "all-trees" eventually some one would decide, "hey, lets call them the "forests" this time". Same thing going on here with the galaxies. It's pretty self explanatory.

If you guys want additional details, here's the press release from Nike and some information from sole collector. Like I guessed, they went with a space exploration/NASA inspiration, probably because the Kennedy Space Center is in Orlando, where the ASG is being played.

Nike Basketball celebrates its pinnacle athletes competing in the 2012 NBA All-Star Game in Orlando later this month with a special lineup of footwear. Inspired by space exploration, the collection features a galactic theme on the LeBron 9, Zoom KD IV and Kobe VII System. The graphics pay homage to the supernova, arguably the most powerful force in the universe, while the outsoles glow in the dark and ‘mission patches’ adorn each shoe as a nod to the accolades astronauts receive.

From the state of Ohio, home to more astronauts than any other state, LeBron James will wear a special version of the LeBron 9 that takes inspiration from the orange space suit. The most visible color to the human eye, orange helps identify astronauts. Functional graphics “Pull For Lockdown
