Why does J Cole think hiding is gonna be good for his career?? Vol Milk Carton overdue

no lie drake work ethic is like no other. When cole and drake had yet to blow up i thought cole would have a bigger career, but drake came through and took over.

This is a myth. Drake's work ethic isn't like no other. His deal is. He also breaks a lot of rules with his label but because of who he is and how it's turned out for him, they can't really do anything about it.

Cole records literally records probably a few times a week, maybe even more. He has records on records. For what reason why he chooses to not release them? Who knows but it isn't because of a lack of work ethic. Couldn't be further from the truth.

And I agree with whoever said that Music and Sports are the same / comparable. They are two totally different concepts.

The object of sports is literally to defeat your opponent. The object of Music, at least in theory, is to make as many great records as you possibly can. Like how can you even say one artist is better than the other? I mean sure you could use popularity, album sales, Buzz, who makes more money, etc. But all that proves is who's more popular. You can't say one rapper is better than the other. There's no metric that you could point to that justifies that.

There's just too much subjectivity and opinion involved in Music for it to be looked upon as some sort of sport. I can, right now say that 2Pac is the greatest rapper of all time...Or I could say that Trinidad James is the greatest of all time. There's nothing you can do to prove to me that either isn't. All you can prove is who's been more successful.

And as far as Cole is concerned, he's fine. He Does really well on tour, sells very well, and even in between albums, remains one of the most popular artist in Hip-Hop.

His career as far as stardom goes is over. Might as well hide...

People were saying this same thing after his first album dropped and it had weak, but successful singles. Then he "hid" and came back with Powertrip which was ridiculously huge...

because people like you fiend for him be creating a thread such as this one. i almost forgot who he was, tiss tiss tiss

I guess some people don't remember in the 90's rappers used to take 2-5 years in between albums with no mixtapes at all maybe a few features.

this is what i keep thinking about lol

and for the record the Roc Nation (Jay Z) backing of Cole is highly exaggerated.... ppl act like Hov had an amazing track record with rap acts ala Dr. Dre or that Roc Nation was a legendary label with the power & influence to force Cole on the masses (the was/is still a start up and they did not spend millions upon millions on marketing Cole)

You have Drake with a Cash Money deal and the whole Jewish connection and then you have Kendrick Lamar with a Dr.Dre deal and an entire west coast backing.

On paper, you telling me a kid from North Carolina was dealt a better hand than them dudes? Hov is Hov...but cmon now

I personally feel like Cole makes better music than both of those guys. But in terms of mainstream appeal, yall frowning at 3rd place positioning in the current landscape of rap are buggin.

Last decade Superstar wise, who did we have? Nelly, 50, Lil Wayne, Kanye maybe TI, Luda.... lower tier rap stars were like Jeezy & Ross

This decade will not come close to that. Superstar wise its Drake. After that everybody else is in that 2nd tier...aint no "heartthrobs" "gangsters" or "martians" or "gods"

Perspective man.

Co-sign. As soon as he decides to make his way back, the people will pay attention once again.

I can play devils advocate here and say maybe Jay doesn't get involved with Coles career because it'd hurt Cole in the long run. The only reason we know Memphis Bleek/Beanie Sigel, etc, is because of Jay. No Jay, those guys disappear. Cole has been able to build a brand for himself and even if he moves to another label, he'd still be ok. Drake rarely associates with Wayne or waits for Wayne to make moves. Hell, Drake blew the F up while Wayne was in jail while the rest of YM sat around living off Waynes name. Now Drake = Wayne or he's even bigger, or is going to be bigger. I only say that because it took Wayne 7-10 years to blow up LIKE THAT, Drake been on a steady incline.

That's not really playing Devil's Advocate, just making logical inferences based on simple observation :lol

drake is on a different level than everyone. And he is definitely bigger than Wayne now. He constantly has a hit in rotation, and if he's quiet it's because he's working on his next one. Incredible work ethic.

Cole never sounded happy about how little jay was involved. I think he expected more help once he got signed and it hasn't been there. He can't even get jay to do a verse in the tracks he wants. That's really bad if we keep it real.

Jay could've definitely made the road easier. Cuz honestly, it was jay who made him change his first album up. And it was a terrible decision.

I don't think Cole wants that huge Jay co-sign. Seems like Cole likes being the underdog and doing things on his own.
