in Amistad and Time to Kill, maybe even Boyz N da Hood, the word has social/cultural significance, on an MTV rap video its less significant.
and kids are much more likely to imitate P Diddy saying it in a "whats up my N" and less likely to imitate a clearly race-hating villain in a moviesaying it.
if you ask Spike Lee (especially about Marin Scorcece) it shouldn't be so freely used.
