Majority of us were not old enough to influence chain events that have lead to the current state of the country, yet we are often seen as the "problem" by society because we don't always agree with old ways. What do you think?

No.

Your kids will say your generation ruined the country.

It's a cycle.

This is highly subjective, unless you provide us with some quantitative metrics.

but our current generation right now generation Z is going to be something TURRIBLE

They will eliminate what's left of social security, but they're creating a lot of job opportunities for OUR generation in healthcare due to a rapidly aging population..

But yeah this question is subjective as $%#*, any generation will always blame previous/future generations for the destruction of society..

Their sense of entitlement and refusal to "pay as you go" has caused our debt problems. They are okay with draining all of the money from retirement accounts and social security.

They ran up the credit card to buy memberships to country clubs. Now they want us to pay the bill, but not allow us in the club.

Most employers are reluctant to hire Generation Y'ers for this exact reason

They sure haven't helped things. Since everything has been catered to Boomers due to their size it has helped foster the sense of entitlement/instant gratification. Add to that the prevailing lack of planning for the future by financing everything in sight while foregoing savings has only helped to create a bigger hole in the current financial situation.

Yes.

Stuck in their ways, don't want to accept change, their hate towards the younger generation, aiming laws and such at us, etc.

Most people that age seem to not want to teach the younger generation about anything, they just want us to make mistakes then ridicule us for it.

But then again, just my opinion.

I came in here thinking he was talking about some race issues old white folks.

whenever on tv the media always make it seems like "white folks" did more for the country baby bombers.

A lot of ignorant responses. For more than 60 years, Baby Boomers have solely driven major economic trends in the USA. They make up 1/6th of the world's population however circulate 70-75% of the USA's currency.

Think of these trends on a timeline, like a tennis ball being pushed through a garden hose. If you were able to project and follow where the tennis ball goes and capitalize on those trends, you'd be wealthy.

We can see this in:

1955 (adolescent stage) hundreds and thousands of elementary schools were built.

1965 (teenagers) several fast food chains blow up

1985 (young adults) real estate booms. the same reason why a lot of our parents were able to buy houses for dirt cheap.

1995: (older adults) discount super stores blow up (walmart, etc.)

2010: (elderly stage): the health & wellness industry is blowing up. at this age, soon-to-be retired old folks care really about a couple of things. staying alive, staying healthy and looking younger. this industry is actually projected to be the next $1 TRILLION dollar industry (in addition to only FOOD & PC's).

On the flipside, i'm not sure if we can attribute education budget cuts, youth obesity from fast food, real estate woes and mom & pop stores going out of businesses due to the baby boomer generation's past influences.

They have driven economic growth due to their sheer size, not due to fiscally responsible policies. The housing booms were due to new mortgage products such as ARM's and $0 down loans which are inherently flawed. The Medicare/Social Security bubble will also have to burst in the next 10-15 years, otherwise it will consume the entire national budget. Most of that due to Boomers refusing to face the fact they would eventually have to retire and would need to save for that and medical expenses inherent with getting older.

I just read this article last night and was going to make a thread, but I'll just post it here. Pretty good read.

The War Against Youth

The recession didn't gut the prospects of American young people. The Baby Boomers took care of that.

Twenty-five years ago young Americans had a chance.

In 1984, American breadwinners who were sixty-five and over made ten times as much as those under thirty-five. The year Obama took office, older Americans made almost forty-seven times as much as the younger generation.

This bleeding up of the national wealth is no accounting glitch, no anomalous negative bounce from the recent unemployment and mortgage crises, but rather the predictable outcome of thirty years of economic and social policy that has been rigged to serve the comfort and largesse of the old at the expense of the young.
