Angle Turns Medal Into Fitting Tribute
August 01, 1996 By David Teel, Olympic Bureau.
ATLANTA — Dave Schultz couldn't be here Wednesday night. But the life he dedicated to freestyle wrestling was honored as his protege and friend, Kurt Angle, won the Olympic gold in the 220-pound division.
"I don't think Dave's legacy will ever die," Angle said after his 1-1 deadlock with Iran's Abbas Jadidi was decided by judges' decision. "I think he has done more for the sport than anybody."
Schultz, a 1984 Olympic gold medalist and a legend in international wrestling circles, was a member and coach of the Pennsylvania-based Team Foxcatcher. The man who financed the team, John E. du Pont, is charged with murdering the 36-year-old Schultz on Jan. 26 and is in prison awaiting trial.
In memory of Schultz, members of the U.S. wrestling team are wearing black armbands at the Games. But Angle is the only Olympian from Team Foxcatcher.
"Dave is an inspiration," he said. "I've never met anybody like him."
Schultz was especially inspirational to Angle when he rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Ukraine's Sahid Murtazaliyev 4-3 Tuesday and again Wednesday as Angle fell behind Jadidi 1-0 late.
When the score remained deadlocked after the regulation five minutes and three minutes of overtime, the decision rested in the hands of three judges. When referee Aduuch Baskuu of Mongolia raised Angle's hand as the victor, Angle hugged him and then dropped to the mat, where he crossed himself and said a prayer.
"If I die tonight, I'd be so happy," said Angle, 27, the 1995 world champion. "I'd be content."
And what would Schultz say?
"He'd slap me in the head for letting it come down to that," Angle said. "He'd call me a dummy and then he'd hug and kiss me."
If WWE does bring back the NOD, who's the leader?
I guess Teddy would be the mouthpiece.
Truth, Big E, Woods, Henry, Titus
This is based on the murder of a guy who trained Kurt Angle.

Future world champion.
I dont even remember Kidman pinning anyone after a tornado bulldog . I'll wait before I close the casket on him though. He has such a disingenuous smile "like Cam Newton" . I feel like he could easily generate heat with that type of gimmick. Or he'll end up like Sandow.
I think they are gonna milk it until he's really over and turn him "face" with him doing the opposite of the Bolieve gimmick, insulting the crowd and stuff, but they will cheer him
I think they are trying to manufacture what happened to The Rock with the transformation from Rocky Mavia to "The Rock"
I love the gimmick, despise the performer...
WTF is Alicia Fox doing. Her meltdown routine is just awkward and annoying.
