Plot:

Will Smith plays a young(er) successful scientist funded by a private research group to to perfect a project that an aging scientist (Washington) has made his life's work. They both work for the same company, but Washington's character has gotten too big for his britches and has a secret as to why he is trying to complete the project. He doesn't want Smith to get too close or to have too many of his ideas so he makes the work environment difficult.

Smith finds out that Washington has already perfected the technology and has already been using it for himself for YEARS. When he is supposedly off on vacation, he's actually living in an alternate timeline where he is the ruler of an alternate Earth. The reason he must come back to our reality is that his technology only works on this side. If his gate closes he will be stuck there with no way to fully transport all of his stolen goods to his alternate realm.

Smith visits the alternate realm and sees that it is much better off than his reality. Though Washington is the absolute ruler, he is no tyrant and has made life much better for mankind. Smith must now decide whether or not he will side with Washington or the corporation.

Washington will certainly have Smith killed if finds out Smith has ratted him out, which will leave Washington stuck with an incomplete dream world that is open to the corruption of our current reality. Washington fears that all of his work will be destroyed in a matter of years if Democracy and Corporatism/Capitalism is ever introduced to his dream world.

Smith, being the company man, turns out to be the one we are uncertain about...
