First thought was the first time i heard about messi . 99 i think. It was on the news and My dad explained some kid from Argentina goinn go play there and supposed to be the one. I was 9 . I was a kid myself like wow

It's a down period I'm not debating that, no club is going under because of current league rules. They just signed that new overseas tv contract with espn, just got a multi billion dollar injection into the league. Crowds will return, revenues will go back up. Exactly how much spending do you see going on Serie A, Bundesliga? Ligue 1 outside of PSG?

And when that happens you still won’t be able to compete with the money of the English clubs and PSG.

It’s why Flo is continuing his Super League crusade. You’re desperate. But nevermind me, I’m just being dramatic.

Late to the party today, but this all on Barça's squad draining money and refusing to negotiate their own salaries. Selfish to an infinite degree. You have:

Piqué
Sergi Roberto
Griezmann
Coutinho
Umtiti
Alba
Busquets
Llenglet

all on absolutely inflated wages. Barça are in dire need of resigning their talisman--a once in a generation/lifetime player--and these schmucks won't free up the cash to make sure his legacy stays with the Blaugrana. Despicable. I hope their squad is boo'd off the pitch every game this season from the culés.

I understand contracts are contract (look at my boy Bale milking FloPe for everything he's worth) but when your club's whole life is on the line, you need to make way for the greatest to ever play the game.
Don't forget Frenkie :lol, he's gotta be the highest paid midfielder in the world rn at 400k/week

Before the pandemic RM spent 350 in one summer, Barca never stopped spending, and Atleti bought a player at 150 mill.

But narrative > facts.

Ligue 1, the Championship and Primeira Liga all start tomorrow. Will start a new thread over the weekend. Been pretty busy this last year and didn't get to dedicate the time I wish I could have to footy in general. I'm only going to get busier over these next few years so with that said, this will be my last time making the footy thread

And the fact is Real Madrid set out a press release suing La Liga today

Whatever tho, nothing more to argue. We disagree.

it isnt a secret how much i DESPISE Farça, but i’m even a little sad this is how Messi goes out.

And yes, the other player’s reluctance to shed their salaries is also a gigantic flaw that has a direct impact on Messi’s departure.

Watch UncleFlo sign Messi:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

its gonna be 100x worse for barca and their fans than what my man figo did. Im all for it

For several hours, Leo #Messi is in discussions with Paris Saint Germain. Negotiations are currently underway. PSG are very attentive to the situation in order to find a solution

Messi /PSG : it is a real possibility. [Even] If the financial package may be very difficult to achieve, PSG will give it a try.
Allons Y!

So the more i read about it, it now appears that its still not over for Messi.

the statement put out by FCB is in order to pressure Tebas into letting them make edits to the financial rules in order to sign Messi at his reduced wages.

i guess nothing will be official until Messi signs with another club

Somehow Barca managed to mess things up even more , they could've easily gotten 100m+ for him last summer when he asked them to leave.

Would've been able to reinvest that into someone like Haaland this or next summer, instead now they're losing him for free and they're still in financial hell
This is why you do business with your head and not your heart

Got no idea why La Liga would walk back rules intended to protect clubs like Barca from financial ruin due to their own incompetence

They've only got themselves to blame for this, not La Liga or any other boogieman. Not a bad thing having regulations against clubs going full dumbass financially

what about the tribute video?

Messi going to PSG is huge for Ligue 1, their current tv/media deals are in the mud. It would allow them to immediately re-work that.
Exactly. They will throw money at him and some under the table. He's 100% going to PSG unless Barca is just pulling a stunt for publicity

Btw, it's gone under the radar given the craziness today but how are City gonna fit Grealish and Foden into the same XI?

No way is the highest paid and most expensive player in PL history gonna be on the bench but I don't see how they'll fit together on the pitch at the same time unless one gets tossed out onto the wing where their ability would be wasted.

I'm sure Foden can't be too happy about the move, that's his direct competition and he already ate up a lot of his minutes at the euros

Well, I am really looking forward to seeing Messi and Ramos on the same squad
